I have done several searches, and couldn't fine the answer to my issue. I have my burner and a dvd-rom on my secondary IDE with the burner as the master. When I first did this I was able to burn directly from my dvd-rom to my burner at 8X speed. No it takes more then 45 minutes and reports 1.4x. DMA is on with the burner buy my dvd-rom is PIO mode, and I can't get it changed back to DMA.

I have a AMD athlon 2200, 768 megs of ram, 80 gig hd, 16x burner, and 16x dvd-rom.

Thanks for your help

I'm not sure whether you're suffering from the PIO/ATA glitch in WinXP but if you're using WinXP then look here:

I think that it's discussed here couple times...
Anyway, simplest way to 'get back' DMA is: go in device manager and remove (uninstall) secondary IDE. Then click 'scan for for changes' . You will get DMA then.
