I am a newbie, so I hope this info is not redundent. Thought I`d post if it helps, I have the latest Decrypter and Shrink, Useing a Pioneer DVR-108(BK) with firmware upgrade 1.18 this upgrade allows Ritek/Ridata 8X -R P/hub (GO-5) to burn at 12X speed which works perfectly in both my Mintek 7'portable and my built in Hitachi player, But when played in my LG HDTV upconverting player freeze-ups occur, I`m assumeing the higher burn speed and the amount of info required for HDTV player are directly related, this problem was corrected by reduceing burn speed to 8X speed and now works perfectly in the HDTV upconverting DVD player, Just thought I`d mention this if it is not already covered in your very helpfull forum.

Interesting.

You may want to further evaluate the quality of your 8x burned at 12x backups with some more standalones. Some machines are "more forgiving" than others. I too use 4&8x RiddataS quite extensively.

Have you tried dis-abling up-conversion in your LG if there is even such a feature? I find this model along with Samsungs' quite puzzling especially when most of the HDTV would upconvert all signals to 540p(DVD) or 720p or 1080i resolution anyway. (reply appreciated).

Lastly, you may want to burn 8x at 8x. I have your older brother, Pioneer 107D, the 8x model. If I am not mistaken the time difference is quite neglible, less than two minutes perhaps. A full 4464mb burn with Nero at 8x takes around 8.5 minutes.

Cheers

Thanks Surf, solid info to avoid pushing the limits of 8X Riteks to 12X and avoid freeze-ups. Also thanks for setting off the light-bulb over my head about the actual time it should take to burn a disc, I was wondering why this burner was not much faster than my old Sony 2x burner. When I put this Pioneer in my P/C it did not pick-up changeing the Secondary IDE channel Porperties to Ultra DMA mode 2, in the Current Transfer Mode section, after going threw 2 techs at Sony and suggesting to him that we should try and reset it to ultra DMA mode 2 in the Current Transfer Mode section, which only could be done he suggested by a uninstall of the device manager I think it was he had me do, hard to remember if it was that exact device ( been up for about 36HRS) so some of my recall is a little fuzzy, but that solved the problem on restart it recognised the new Ultra DMA mode 2, and now I can pound out a disc in just a bit over 8min. at 12X Thanks Again to Everyones Info Here I`m slowly picking-up bits and pieces from the different posts here to make things much easier.
