View Full Version : v0.71 doesn't delete subs

It seems that 0.71 doesn't delete the subs I de-selected, I have not tried it with 0.72 so if this was already reported I seem to have missed the thread.

You can actually see the subpictures or they are just selectable but don't appear?

I can see them, they are still there (checked with Shrink).

Did you tjek when playing the movie. As far as I'm concerned DVDRB only blank the deleted subs, so that if you select them they aren't there any longer.
Why this? - Because the sub menu bottons would get messed up if it isn't done this way. Example: If you have only kept sub 4(eng) and 6(ESP) then if you select ESP from menu which was subtitle 6 before it will not find it and choose subtitle 1 instead (sub 4). If it can't find the subtitle number it will always choose the first available. If you make a movie with Dvdshrink it is done in the same way, to ensure the menu bottons are still working.
Same goes for audio stripping.
Hope that will help you

another way to check would be that you see them in shrink but they are 0 bytes.

I know they get blanked normally because of button commands.
Shrink says they are a few MB so no, they are not deleted or blanked.
I'll do another test with 0.72 this time.

Tried again with 0.72, same problem.
Subs don't get deleted :(
Anybody else has this problem?

Yep, I have the problem off and on with RB 069 to 072. Some dvd's seam to keep all the subs, while in others all bar English (as I've selected) are removed. I simply pass the final encode through Shrink to remove the extra subs if its a tad oversized (which is nornal) and with Compression at 100% or set to No for the main movie.
West Wing Season4 NTSC R1 retained all subs but only English was selected to be retained. ER Season1 PAL R4 only retained the English, removing all others.

I'm looking at this... but I'm at a loss as I can't seem to repeat it.

I have has this happen a few times on some movies the last one being "I, Robot", no matter what I did with DVD-RB they were there. I have also noticed if you have to stop the "Encoding" phase for some reason and close DVD-ReBuilder, when you reopen and restart the "Encoding" sometimes all sub-titles are kept.

That could the problem here too, I did 'pauze' both encodes.
I'll try with the 1 click option & I'll let you know.
Strange though, why would this happen?

That could happen if you changed the defaults in the listboxes. If I recall (I'm not near my code right now) correctly, the saved (non standard) audio/sub selectionss are only read when loading from a .RBD file (e.g. in batch mode).

Just for the record, I do 99% of all my encoding in Batch mode (to their own Working Path folder) while I sleep :) CCE 2.50 Retail with Eclcce, 1 Pass VBR & Dynamically Assign Bitrates retaining (well trying to) English Audio & Subs.
I really dont care if the unwanted Subs are not removed as they normally take up such little room anyway and if they do, Shrink quickly takes them out.
I also did the first 5 disks of ER Season 3 (PAL R4) last night, all Subs were retained and all way oversized from 4.67 to 4.93 gb. I did Disk 6 today (not in batch mode) and all except English Subs were removed. (also oversized at 4.69gb) Absolutely nothing changed software/hardware wize between the 2 encoding sessions. I simply cannot find any reason why sometimes they are removed and sometimes they are not. Maybe it to do with phases of the moon as it was a full moon last night :)

More likely sunspots or bird omen but moon phases could have an impact.

I only use batch mode... and my subs don't get removed in the last several versions of RB... I use Shrink to clean it out, create my ISO image and delete the IFO remarks for languages and subs so I don't have to flip through removed streams with my remote as well as start the burn with DVD Decryptor... So all in all Shrink manages a lot of stuff to finish off the disc... so I don't sweat the RB sub function issue.

What's the recommended solution for oversized files? Possibilities include rerunning in multi-pass mode, lowering sector target and running DVDShrink, but I'm wondering if one of these is likely to be better in general.
If I missed something in search, please point me in the right direction.

When they are just over like 4.45mb, then I find Shrink is fine, normally compression is 98 or 99%. I lower compression on Menus (as RB didnt compress them anyway, any un-refferenced stuff goes to the lowest compression possible, then the Main movie is at 100% to 98% compression, so Shrink does a good job.
But for the odd ones that go out to 4.93gb, (Shrink would have 90% or less compression) then I just redo with 1 Pass VBR turned off and VBR set to 2 passes.

Does that mean setting RB to 2 passes or to 3 passes, as RB number is one higher than the number of CCE passes?

If I missed something in search, please point me in the right direction. My recommendation is to leave the target sizes alone. That is the source of the problem 90% of the time. People try to squeeze the last few megabytes out of the disc, and oversize as a result. I'm thinking seriously about removing the option...
I personally have never once gone oversized (except in OPV mode) in over 800 discs tested.

I'm using OPV mode (as is CM, if I'm reading correctly), so I was wondering how to deal with oversize in OPV.
DVD2SCVD & D2SRoba provide for a sizing pass if the OPV is too large. Would it make sense to add this feature?

Some people just have to fuss with stuff........ :D
