Hey All, Just curious if anyone has any suggestions on how to fix my problem.

I have Nero 6.6 and an LG 4160 burner. When I open a disc image and put a disc into the drive under the "Burn" tab the "Write Speed" field goes blank and the status bar at the bottom reads "Waiting for the disc to become ready" and then the program doesn't ever allow me to burn a disc.

thanks,

A little more info on this problem:

1. Basically it seems like my drive isn't installed properly / not compatible with Nero or something like that....but it has worked fine for a long time and this problem only started happening after a clean format on my computer.

2. Yes, I have switched some hardware around recently also - but I have double checked the IDE cable, connections, etc.

3. When I click "Recorder" -> "Choose Recorder" the correct drive is selected, and this is very interesting: when no disc is inserted it states "Maximum CD Speed 40x", if I put an 8x or 4x DVD drive in this info changes to "Maximum Speed 8x" or "Maximum Speed 4x". So it does recognize the drive and the media that is inserted!

4. When I click "Recorder" -> "Disc Info" this tool does not recognize any discs inserted no matter if I use DVD-R, DVD+R, or CD-R's.

5. I am using the same discs that I have used with this writter numerous times before.

Thanks for your help!
Slate.

Is it possible that during the format, you lost a more recent driver for your burner? Check the manufacturer's site for the latest driver if you think this is a possibility.

If your driver somehow got corrupted, on an XP OS you can uninstall the driver; XP will pick it back up on reboot.

You are not by any chance using an oem CD belonging to another brand?

Some (but not all) OEM Nero disks are keyed to a specific brand and will not burn to other brand burners. This can become really difficult if you have two burners with two nero CD's, but from different brands. (I still keep a CD burner in my machine) since you cannot burn to both even though you own two legal copies.
