hi,

how do i remove extras before i start to encode the video.
i want to leave more space so that the video quality can be as high as possible.
i want to only keep the menue, i dont need extras. english audio, highest video quality and menue are what i want.
how to i relink the links to extras cos i read that if you dont relink, pushing the botton on the remote will cause a crash if u start the item u removed.

also, i once used dvddecryptor and i had the vobs on the hdd opened it with dvd rebuilder and i got a encrypted source error :(

thanks in advance

you can remove everything you want , extras, menus, or other files like trailers etc with the program vobblanker.

it is also freeware and the latest version is 1.6.0.3

i'm sure you can find it here at doom9!

i use it always to remove anything that i dont want and it always work great!

have fun!

There is a read me file in VOB Blanker that tells you all the steps and how to use them. Great Program

what about this encrypted source issue guys? It had to be an anomaly or something corrupted. DVD Decrypter will decrypt anything.

DvdReMake (http://www.dimadsoft.com/dvdremakepro) is also a great program to edit your DVD completely.
It's not free but you will be able to change the button commands & stuff like that.

If you wan't to keep it free use MenuEdit (http://www.dimadsoft.com/menuedit).
The free demo allows you to do anything the normal version will do but there is no preview, looking at the menu's on your player helps :D

@justblaze. Hi, :)

Follow Spiet indications: it's most probably the right way to solve your troubles. VobBlanker have a good embedded help file. Get a reading at it, and you will realise its usage is very handy...

Cheers,

VobBlanker is great for removing unwanted "bits" (particularly bits that are in the same set of VOBs containing something else you'd like to keep).
However... and it might be that I've seriously missed something, it doesn't seem to have a way you can use to figure out which pieces contain which bits of video. I've been using IfoEdit as I'm familiar with it, but there's probably an easier way - anyone know?

Oh - and for something dead easy that does most of what you want, try DvdShrink. Set overall compression to "no compression", then set compression for each item you want to remove to "replace with single image", and process the entire DVD. Might as well strip out the audio and subtitles you don't want at the same time. It's free, but donate-ware and, like DVD Rebuilder, if you use it regularly it'd certainly be a nice thing to donate. I guess I'm "preaching to the choir" here on donations anyway... (?)

As far as I know DVDShrink the person making the program have never acepted donations, but probably earn a bit from Nero, as the DVD to DVD function of Recode is basicly DVDShrink in disguise.

What is the difference in VobBlanker between Blanking and Cutting. I have looked through the VobBlanker help sheets that come with it and they are very descriptive of the program but very technical and I can't tell what most of it means. All I want to know is how to remove some parts of the DVD. I could use a less technical guide if there is one.

Try this link for vobblanker guides:

Also try DVDfab dvddecryptor, there are some DVDs that DVDdecryptor does not work on.

Hi blueboyec,
Thanks for those links, but I have them already. Those are the ones I referred to above that I looked through. They are very technical and are brimming with terms and acronymns I don't understand and the very titles of the two sheets are not clear to me - one is blanking and one is cutting. That was the basis for my question.

I suspect Blanking means making it so you don't see the video, but not removing it from the disk so you save no space; and cutting would be actual removal of the section so you do create more space. I'm just assuming that though from the general definition of the words. That's what I was hoping to confirm with my question.

Tom,

Blanking meaning removing that video with a blank click about 10k in size. So if you want to blank out a movie preview that 300Mb and 3min long, it ends up 10K and .13sec. You save basicly 300mg here. I use cut when I what to cut out the end credits. Hope that helps.

Hi blueboyec,
OK. Thats good to know. I tried cutting last night and it didn't work. I probably made some error or omission.

I'll try blanking next later. Maybe I can figure out how to do that. Reducing to 10k is good for my purpose. I want to free up some space to reduce the compression requirement.

Thanks.
