HELLO,
I have a new Dell 8400, Pent. 4 3.2HT, 160gb HD, 1gb memory, OEM Phillips DVD8631 burner, OEM HT-DT-ST-DVD Rom GDR8163B, using Roxio Easy Media Creator Home 7, RecordNow tickler, MyDVD tickler, DVD Decrypter 3.5.2.0, DVD Shrink 3.2 and DVD X Copy XExpress. I ope I'm not breaking the rules of the forum. I,m real new at burning backup's
and have read alot of threads trying to find a solution to my problem and haven't found one yet. My problem is trying to backup movies I own. I'm able to back some up using DVD Shrink with DVD Decrypter using Memorex DVD+R 4.7 with up to 4x speed and able to play it in my standalone DVD player (Sanyo DWM270)and my DVD ROM on my computer. I have tried using Memorex DVD-R 8x, and Sony DVD-R 1x-4x. They will both play in my DVD-ROM on my computer but not on my standalone DVD player. A friend has a Dell with a Pioneer AO8 burner and I tried the Sony DVD-R 1x-4x in her system and was able to play the backup in my standalone and own my DVD-ROM on my computer. The Memorex 8x DVD-R have just been drink holders.
Can anyone help me with my problem and suggest which media I need to use or what setting in my computer I might need to change to solve this problem. And yes the movies I'm trying to backup I own.

Thanks in Advance and I hope I didn't offend anyone, just need lots of help.

Thanks,
DNARC

hi and welcome to the forum,

you can check what other media/burner and media/standalone combinations work for other people right here:

www.dvdrhelp.com

just search for either your media, your burner or your standalone and check out the users comments!

hmmm... intersting... you might wanna check www.rpc1.org and www.cdfreaks.com ... perhaps a new firmware will help you out ;)

edit: are you sure it is the 8631 and not the 8601?? if it is the 8601 you might want to check out this firmware: http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_firmware.php?download_id=2009 if it works it should improve your burner quite a bit. the well known warnings about firmware flashing of course apply ;)

You're correct, the DWM-270 is not listed.

You're not the only person to report problems with the 270, see the post from "wart-hog" that I found by googling for the 270: http://www.marcpeters.co.uk/videoeditingforum/software233.htm

And according to this link I found with the same search, it looks like your owner's manual says clearly that DVD-Rom is not supported. If that means DVD-R, then you are out-of-luck. Not all DVD players will accept DVD-R or DVD+R. You should contact Sanyo for a clarification.

Hello killingspree & jggimi,

Yes I'm sure its a Phillips DVD8631, Device manager list it as that and so does DVD Decrypter. I just burned a Memorex 8x and it worked well in both the standalone and the DVD ROM in my computer. The only thing that is puzzling is that a Pioneer can burm a Sony DVD-R 1x-4x and it will play in both my systems and if I use the same disk and burn it in my system it will only play on my computer. I'm learning. Maybe with some additional help I will some figure it out.

Also looks like the Sanyo owner manual is a little wrong. Looks like the DVD+R's will work at least Memorex 8x and Memorex 1x-4x.
I will check out the other sites you have listed.
Any help is very much appreciated.

Thanks

jggimi,

I found my owners manual for my Sanyo lurking with the dust mites in the back of my closet. You're right the manual says it will not support DVD-ROM but will support CD-R/RW. Guess I'll be using +'s until I buy a new standalone player.

killingspree and jggimi thanks for the assistant. I'm learning and just maybe one of these days in the near future I will be able to offer my assistant on a subject to the both of you.

My next venture is to backup my wife's old black and white VHS movies, and I will probably need that assistant again.

Thanks alot,
DNARC (Randy)
