View Full Version : XviD file sizes haywire even after fresh XP install

Hi there.
I am using the latest gordian knot with XviD 1.03 to encode my Simpsons DVDs. My file sizes right now are too small (by about 22%). If I uninstall & reinstall xvid (i'm assuming it's xvid--I usually un&re all of gnot), the very first encoding job will work perfectly. BUT, the second, third, fourth, etc. are all too small. If I uninstall & reinstall once more, again, the first encoding job works like a charm, but the following jobs are either way undersized or oversized. I even tried a fresh install of windows, and, again, the same thing! I am at wit's end here--I have lots and lots to encode, and I can't uninstall and reinstall a million times. Please help!

I have a Dell Dimension 8300 3.4GHz, 1GB RAM, ATI Radeon X800 XT, etc. I followed Doom9's guide to encoding using gnot & xvid as closely as I could (did not use robot4rip, though). I don't know if this is relevant, but while it's encoding, I looked at the average bitrate--it went up to 4000 kb/s at one point, but ended up under 1000.

Thank you!
Richard

Use a more agressive overflow treatment value. Instead of using the default 5% use 10%, 15%, 20% (find out which one works for you). 10% does a pretty good job for me but it all depends on your source. For under sized encodes, try lowering the number of b-frames you use or lower your max quantizer. Just because I answered you it doesn't mean you shouldn't :search: in the future.
