Now that you added the ability to detect the correct audio stream in Beta 1.86 (BIG THANK YOU!) I would like to suggest a checkbox added to Audio under Advanced Settings to convert the audio to MP3 if the audio source is 2 channel AC3, but leave it alone if it is more than 2 channels.
Possible?

Isn't this something which you can do yourself?
If the input audio is shown to be AC3 6Ch, go to 'Advanced Settings' --> Audio --> select AC3/DTS.
If the input audio is shown to be AC3 2Ch, go to 'Advanced Settings' --> Audio --> select MP3 (VBR or CBR as per your preference).
You can select the input audio you want too, right? It can't get simpler than this.

and also one can argue that 2Ch AC3 should not be converted to MP3 anyway as it doesn't occupy too much space and provides superior quality comparing to MP3...

...but mp3 conversion provides much more compatibility, which is probably more important (for an averrage agk user) than quality at this level.
anyway I think original question-request was referred to a more automated way of encoding audio, which would only be really useful if the audio wanst identified as ac3 6ch or 2ch or whatever. I think his suggestion was considering ppl who doesnt even know what 2ch or 6ch is, am I wrong?

...that proves that you have can different opinion about what's best in auto mode, but it will stay as it is to avoid confusion.

Hi. I want to just this. I have a DVD with 2 channel ac3 audio. I want to convert that to MP3 but in GordianKnot. How do I do that?

I am trying to rip "LOTR-Return of the king" to XviD. It will probably take 3 CDs. It has audio in both stereo and multichannel modes. Do you think for viewing on a PC with headphones, I am better off including the stereo stream or should I downmix the multichannel audio? Which one will be better from quality point of view?
If you recommend that I include the stereo stream, will converting it to VBR MP3 (LAME --alt-preset standard) save considerable space compared to the 275MB that the original, 192Kbps AC3 stereo stream occupies?
Thanks.

It' really that simple..
Hit the encoder tab, press "add", and voila: you can add one or two audio tracks (ac3, wav, mp3, ogg, dts)to be converted to mp3 or ogg media.
You can even convert the audio without the video encoding.
It's selfexplaining.
What are your eyes for?
You better make yourself more comfortable with the programs your using:D
Edit: Oops! I just saw your last post:
It's bullsh...to convert a stereo 192kbts ac3 stream to mp3 using the -alt standard setting. This will give you only little savings (if any) and worse quality).
If you're really in need for more video space use mp3 128kbits abr or better stick with the ac3.
Cheers

Thanks. That's all I wanted to know. I am taking Taurus's advise and including the ac3 stream itself. Thanks again.
