View Full Version : Some things to consider

AutoGK is a very nice program but here are some things that you might consider to make it even better:

- Use TomsMoComp for deinterlacing instead of Kernel deinterlace, because it gives a nicer picture imo (thus better compression)
- Let autocrop cut off 2 pixels more on each side, because often there still are some small black lines around the picture
- When converting a stereo sound source, don't use dynamic compression, just normalization
- Maybe an option for a cartoon mode which uses a heavy filter and some other settings to optimize for this kind of material.

Thx for reading

1) You can use AutoGK Tweaker to edit your AVS script and manually add TomsMoComp and remove KernelDeint.

2) The latest version of AutoGK has an option for doing manually cropping the frame *after* applying autocrop. This feature is accessible via pressing CTL+9 (a.k.a AutoGK Assistant) in AutoGK.

3) Guess this is something for len0x to consider.

4) This option is also available via AutoGK Assistant. Option #2.

P.S: As of 1.86b, AutoGK Assistant is integrated into AutoGK.

Thx. I've found the AutoGK Assistant, but where do i find AutoGK Tweaker to edit the avs script?

By cartoon mode i didn't mean the cartoon mode of xvid.
I basicly want an option for heavy filtering, because when i encode slightly noisy cartoons the result is not good (a lot of mosquito noise), although the compressability is around 75%.
Another solution would be to improve the noise detection, but this is probably hard to do.

You can find the AutoGK Tweaker tool and its method of usage here (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=79227). Heck, you can even go in and change the XviD codec settings. Once in a while when I feel like cheating AutoGK to QPELize/GMCize my encode, I do this.:D

Reg: your heavy filtering needs, since this tool will allow you to edit the AVS script to add/remove filters, you can add your own filter chain to achieve what you want.

The best noise detector is probably your own eyes.:)

Everyone wants to use their favourite filters but AutoGK is not GK, so you would have to live with tweaker solution for a while.

regarding 3) - I don't see an explanation of why? There is always too much discussion about audio options anyway, so I hope at some point I just introduce custom LAME and Azid options so that everyone stop bugging me :)

@ Lenox, fine for me :)

@ Slogra, tweaker is fine but you need to nurse it (press ok 4/5 times to go through the complete encode) so, atm, I use tweaker until 1st pass is ready, stop there, open AR calculator (AVS2AVI is fine also for xp-sp1 users) use the avs script, make the small configs and run and do something else. I must admit I do this only after 1 or more complete simple (no tweak) encodes by AGK not satisfying which is rare, usually more denoising to get more resolution even if less details, it's a compromise :)
