TDeint, not deinterlacing...

Hey everyone...

I was working on a video project when I get to the point where I am going to deinterlace it for DVD. I used TDeint() as usual and I ended up with this (http://www.videocdpro.com/josh/deinted.png).

I did use 3 different cameras for this project, BUT they all in the end were transferred through the same DV camera. I don't know what went wrong. I changed the order to 1 and 0 and neither changed the results. Not all the DV footage is like this only frames here and there-- which I've never had happen to me before. Is there a reason why this is happening and how I can get rid of the combing?

try this one:

tdeint(tryweave=false)

it might be that it's metrics are off a bit and it's not seeing the combing, and so it's letting it through weaved (this is good if you're field-matching, but not so good for true interlaced with low motion i guess).

btw, any particular reason to deint? DVD can handle interlacing, so if it doesn't spoil your aesthetic, i'd say keep it interlaced.

I deinterlaced because I would like to sharpen the picture (LimitedSharpen) as well as remove some of the grain introduced. I am also bobbing the video to 60p and then using scharfis_brain's script to convert 60p (originally 60i) to 24p.

Why don't you bob the 60i? That's what you are supposed to do when you do the conversion.

Whoops, been meaning to set the default for tryweave to false for some time.

The original material is 29.97 interlaced NTSC. It is then bobbed to 60 solid frames (60p). So I did bob the material. It is not 60 interlaced frames, it is 30 bobbed to 60.

If this video that you are working at is pure interlaced footage doing this will only cause it to become very jerky (that script is only for video that was telecined from a 24fps film source). Besides for authoring to DVD it is usually better to just leave such video, assuming it is purely interlaced video not telecined, interlaced and do deinterlacing upon playback.

@ObiKenobi: That script is meant for pure interlaced material. It doesn't cause any severe jerkiness, only some motion blur. For telecined film sources, it's IVTC'ing.

You deinterlaced, then bobbed? Or what was the procedure? Or are the two procedures done for different sources (some deinterlaced, some converted from 60i to 24p) ?

Sorry for the confusion...

Deinterlaced/Bobbed - I meant to say strictly bobbed, since bobbing is deinterlacing Field A and Field B and "bobbing" between the two to double the framerate.
