to be honest this is more an avisynth/filter usage question than a result of using DIF4U et al.

i will move this to the avisynth usage forum where all of the hard-core anime encoding gurus hang out :D

although i would also strongly suggest supplying a LOT more details about your problem, including your scripts etc, as the information provided does not give a lot to go on.

good luck

Thanks for the move jel. Iam currently using DoItFAST4U,DOCCE4U. DVD ReAuthorist, CCE 2.5 and Sonic Scenarist 2.6 To Rip encode and put back together. Iam also using Avisynth_208. All my rips come out great... except for anime. I first tried to de-interlace it but that had no effect on it. Really could use some help. Thanks

could you post screenshots of before and after, or perhaps a short clip cut from the vob, plus your script?

"aliasing" can mean a lot of things...

btw, if you're going DVD-9 to DVD-5, there's no reason to deinterlace (especially with an encoder like CCE or QuEnc which both handle interlace very well).

I'll try to get a clip for you in a few moments. Thanks

ah, it's a 3:2 pattern that's been blend-deinterlaced.

hmm. not much that can be done about it unfortunately. it must look rather jerky, blurry and wobbly on the screen.

i'm seeing a telecine sequence, but the fields are blurred together instead of showing "combing" like it should.

my advice is to try and ignore it :(

is the commercial disc like this all the way through? you should email/phone the authoring house that released it, because it should not be like that.

now just to check - this is off the source, not the encoded result, right? what's the script you're using? (post it here inside [code] and [ /code] tags)

thats the end result of the encode. The original source has it but its not as bad. It seems to haev been magnified by the encode. What do you mean by script and where would i find the code. Thanks

original source is required to determine pattern and most appropriate way to re-encode.

you will find the script in your VTS_xx demux folder. eg: 'VTS__01_P02.I-TFF.16~9_1.AVS'
open .avs in notepad and copy and paste
eg: import("C:\Program Files\DoItFast4U\new.avs\addaudio.avs")

LoadPlugin("C:\Program Files\DoItFast4U\new.d2v\mpeg2dec3dg.dll")

Mpeg2Source("VTS__01_P02.I-TFF.16~9_1.d2v",idct=0)

AddAudio()

ConvertToYUY2(interlaced=true)

This is what i have. Does this help any ?

import("C:\Program Files\DoItFast4U\new.avs\addaudio.avs")

LoadPlugin("C:\Program Files\DoItFast4U\mpeg2dec3.dll")

Mpeg2Source("VTS__02_P01.I-BFF.4~3_1.d2v",idct=0)

LoadPlugin("C:\Program Files\DoItFast4U\decomb.dll")

FieldDeinterlace()

AddAudio()

You guys have any ideas on how to fix prob ?

coolieman2001,
as previously suggested, you should post a link to a segment of the source video, NOT the re-encoded video, if you want to get an accurate diagnosis on how to proceed.
cheers

Would you mind just posting the name of the DVD it's off of? Some people here might just have the DVD at home themselves, you know...

np: Zorn - Michelle's Unblockable (The City's Collapsing (But Not Tonight))

I did a Xvid backup of my copy of the Rahxephon movie and didn't really have any problems with aliasing. How bad is it, can you post a screen shot of the bad parts?

yah, whats a good program to take screen shots ?

The source of the aliasing is FieldDeinterlace, as aliasing is a common artifact from the output of a deinterlacer. You should be doing an IVTC on this not deinterlacing. Use the Telecide and decimate functions in Decomb or use TIVTC to do this. If properly done you should get no aliasing artifacts at all.

VirtualDub or VdubMod.

So in doitfast4u i would just pick the IVTC option ? I have Auto detect NTSC Video Type on. So i guess doitfast4u was always picking the deint option instead of IVTC

Yes. The only time you would do deinterlace is if the footage you are encoding is purely interlaced. For telecined material, like anime, you want to do an IVTC to restore the original 24fps film frames.

ICIC. Iam going to try it tonight.

just read your email (hope there wasn't too much delay - i get slack checking it sometimes).

the sample you gave me IVTC's perfectly. no deinterlacing needed. can't say the rest of the movie will be like that, but it's highly likely - the source is very clean, and originally a motion picture, which means it'll be 24p all the way through. probably wont even be any confusing out-of-pattern scenechanges.

I tried it in IVTC and it worked. It looks great ! Thanks for all the help guys.
