just burned my first 25fps(PAL DVD) and my toshiba player #SD-195osc(1yr old), says this error on the the screen ("not NTSC"). the manual says this:

"this DVD player
uses the NTSC color system and cannot play DVD video discs recorded in any other color system (PAL, SECAM etc)".

so do i assume correctly, that i am screwed for playing any PAL dvd's on this particular player?

You sure about that model number? There are 179 Toshiba players in the database at www.videohelp.com/dvdplayers, but not that one. I can't find info on it at Toshiba's site either.

But the answer to your question appears to printed in your owner's manual.

WOW! are there really DVD players out there that can't even handle PAL?

hmm. all the standalones i've ever had support NTSC and PAL (and many many variants, like 29.97 with PAL colour).

are you in PAL land or NTSC land (i'm assuming NTSC land, which seems to ignore the existence of other standards, hence your current problem)?

there may be a hack for that player to allow it to output PAL (rather like the region-free hacks for toshiba players where you enter a key combination into the remote - F,D,F,HP or whatever)
