Anybody know of such a thing?

VirtualDub supports variable bitrate(vbr).

Could you somehow be a little more precise what you want to do and why it doesn't work?

Cheers

he probably means VBR audio

VirtualDubMod would be a good option then i guess...

Yeah I did. Sorry to be imprecise.

VirtualDubMod supports VBR Audio? Since when? The latest version I got wants to reencode it (if I say no, its first out of sync and then it crashes)

yeah that happens a lot with VDM, you could try an earlier build... or you can just re-encode without audio and remux it with AVIMux GUI. it doesnt want to re-encode it BTW, it just re-writes the wavformatex header, nothing permanent that cant be undone.

if you try to play the file with VBR audio in VDM, don't. or try to enable "priss rocks" in the preferences.

Actually I'd needn't be as advanced as VirtualDub, just something were one can do simple cut editing in an avi without having to recompress neither sound nor picture.

Well it was always thus, most people saying something was impossible and then suddenly someone has a brilliant idea and something new becomes possible.

I'd like to think there are great compression ideas yet to be discovered, and unless 3D storage becomes so cheap that nobody cares about size I'm sure we'll find them eventually (unless we nuke the planet)

And hey, the people who make Stuffit just made a new compression algorithm that will losslessly compress JPEG files by an average of 30% (as opposed to zip's 0%-1%)

What do you know :D

Oops, sorry Koepi I posted the message on the wrong thread!

- perhaps we should delete the last two messages then.
