Hi every1.
First free open sourced Xvid player for PalmOS is being developed now.
http://sourceforge.net/projects/magiclantern/
I'm currently beta-testing it and i hope that more advanced Xvid users (unlike me:D ) could help me understand couple of things.

I'm trying various xvid advanced settings to see what does and what doesnt' play good on new player. The problem is i little understand what certain option does. Well, i do understand how b-frames work more or less, but i have no idea what "q-pel" or "packed bitstream" mean.
Till now, everything played perfectly, except when i enable "packed bitstream". I remember some time ago i saw here some "Xvid_options_explained" but i could find it. I also didnt find anything in xvid installation itself. So I have couple of questions:

1) Can anybody lead me to some place where xvid options are explained?

2) What xvid features DO affect file playback, and what only otpimeze/change encoding process (i know q-pel affects, what else)?

3)Since this player is for average palm user, what features should it support? What features are used often and what used rarely? What about "packed bitstream" - since it didnt' play correctly.?

4) Since most current palms can't playback regular "dvd-rips", most video must be converted to a lower bitrate/resolution/framerate in order to play on palm device (this is also the way for all shareware palmOs mpeg-4 players that currently exist) What Xvid features (apart from resolution/framerate/bitrate) would slow-down the playback compaired to the same setup w/o this feature?

5) If anybody understand in Xvid-decoding programming - you welcome to help us.:D Me personally have zero experience in coding, The author says he also only partly understands how this work.

TIA

In the FAQ at top of this forum is a link to crusty's FAQ which explains every option you ask for.

Also, www.doom9.org (the main site to this forum) has a xvid-guide which is a must-read (if you follow the forum rules...)

Cheers
