Onboard Sound The Problem ?

Sorry to ask but i did search but didnt find what i was looking for.I have tryed most of the ways to stop dropped frames from the capture sticky but still im getting about 3 or 4 dropped frames a minute, the only thing i can think of thats causeing the frame drops is that im using the onboard soundstorm audio.I read on another board something about onboard sounds not really designed for capturing, this is what leads me to believe that this is the problem.Ive tryed that vd sync mod and that gets something like 40 dropped frames in less than 30 seconds.

Would the onboard audio be the problem...?

If so will any sound card do or should i be looking at a higher end sound card.

Hi,

I am afraid that my little crystal ball won't tell me what you are not providing: more technical information.

Anyway, I have always used the onboard audio in the machines I have owned for real time video card and never had a problem like the one you describe.

When in doubt, I reformat and do a clean install, that normally fixs the problems.:devil:

Since you need guidance, please reply with the obvious things: Capture card
Capture driver
Capture software (yeah, you tried VdubMod. But what are you otherwise using?)
OS
Motherboard chipset
CPU
Disk drive -- dedicated or shared with OS?
Disk drive RPMsBut you can test to see if your sound is the problem. Try capturing video only -- no sound.

I think i did try and test with no audio but still had dropped frames, but i did just unplug the audio.

Disable it, and try again. If you still see drops, its not your sound.

There are other capture tools that may work for you. VirtualVCR is popular.

When u say disable it, you mean in vd.I Will give it a try but not for a while as i need to clean the hard drive up a little, i'll give it a shot when i have a chance, i'll then post back in this thread.

I meant in Vdub, yes. Capture....Settings menu. But you could also disable the driver from the control panel.

And while you're looking for alternative capture tools, you may want to try the new Vdub 1.6.3 -- see Doom9's news for 1/12.

Soundstorm is a rather good audio chipset; uses very few cpu cycles compared to other audio chips (cards).

I have two WinFast cards and I do not use the latest PVR; causes problems for me.

I suggest that you try different versions of drivers and PVR's available here (ftp://203.66.138.20/tv_tuner/)

Soundstorm is the digital part of your audio integrated solution. In capture mode from analog source as TV, you are using the analog sound chipset (as Realtek, CMIx738, etc) and his futures.

PS: try to select from ur capturing software: Master Stream to Audio, not Video.

Have'nt hooked the video player up but i did connect my digital camera to my capture card and done a test cap with VD 1.5.10 abd ubticked the audio capture and still with no audio capture i got 3 frame drops on a 45 sec test, i done the same again but with Virtual VCR no audio capture, i put the stat box up and i didnt get any dropped frames in a 1 minute test.
