View Full Version : Recreating Multiple Vob Set Ifo's and Bup's etc

Hi - I am reasonably familiar with IfoEdit and know how to recreate replacement/new .ifo and .bup files for a single vob set. However recently a backup became corrupted and although all the .vob files are intact, it will not play in a standalone player, although play back quite ok in my PC using Power DVD - although the menus are screwed. The disc contained four (4) vob sets.

I have read the guides but they deal with single set recreation. Is there any way to recreate the .ifo's and .bup's whilst keeping the menu navigation intact? All my backup programs refuse to import due to Menu navigational problems and the original disc has been lent out to my daughter who is overseas.

If there isn't a simple solution - how do I go about re-authoring and what software would be recommended?

Hope this forum can help me

TIA

Roz

How do you know that your IFOs are fully to be blamed? That's why there is the BUP file or BackUP file. It is identical to the IFO. Try copying your BUP file and renaming it as IFO.

If this doesn't solve your problem, I can highly assume that your media just went bad on you.

How about ripping your backup back to your HD and previewing in your software player again. Do you get playback problems?

Thanks for that. First my .ifo files have been recreated several times now and so originals including the bup files are corrupt. Second the original disc was backed up to my hdd using dvd decrypter so I haven't got an actual disc as such.

It looks as though I'm stuck until my daughter returns home - is that the case?

If your backup is still on your hard drive, just take an IFO/BUP from there.

What do I need to say for heavens sake? - THE IFO & BUP FILES ARE CORRUPT - THEY DO NOT WORK! All I am asking is: -

Without these - can I restore "Multiple Vob sets" YES or NO. If yes HOW?

Sorry to shout but my post, I thought, made my question very clear.

You didn't and you are now on ignore. you've taken 3 whole posts to PMO. Maybe you should learn a bit of manners before coming on here. Go ask your parents to have a try at teaching you. Why should I help you?

We all have our moments of frustrations but keep cool ... at least, people are trying to help you out instead of ignoring/flaming you. It's only natural for us to ask questions since we don't have your DVD right in from of us.

Anyways, we need to clarify some things.

1. Since you have a burnt backup, was playback successful during the first couple of times and then one day, you start getting problems? Just need to know if you had problems fresh off the burner.

2. Are you using labels on your DVD?

3. If you don't have your original files on your HD anymore, did you rip/copy them back to your HD to work on them again?

4. If so, do you have any problems playing it on your software player? Try to see if you can get DVD Shrink to successfully analyze it without problems. Test, test, test!

5. If everything is OK, try burning it again.

Standalone players are less forgiving than software players but if per chance you had no problems after playing, I reiterate, something might be wrong with your media. I've had personal experience with using Memorex brand and my DVD started going bad after a month. What brand of blanks are you using?

Who knows, even standalones have been known to go bad too.

Aaaah 2COOL, you don't know, but so much cooler than me, in the face of assholes (note to moderators - this is a comment about 2COOL's temperament, not how I feel about rozel!).

Course, he wasn't flaming you ;)

Later mate.

BTW: Rolz looks like he might have solved the 32k barrier problem.

if you really want the originals and your daughter has acces to email then have her email only the ifos. they're not encrypted just copy and paste then on the HD.

Chances are if the ifo and bup files are corrupt then some if not all the vob files are corrupt to. You should try to copy as many files from your bad disk to your hard drive then test each vob file in powerdvd before even dealing with the ifo or bup files. You will need to test from the beginning to the end of each vob. Once the vob starts playing you can use the advance bar to advance to several points in the vob to make sure they play, then advance to near the end and let it play to the end of each vob to make sure the vob exits cleanly. If any of the vob files are corrupt chances are you will need to do the backup over. If each vob file is ok then sweetness's suggestion is a very good one. The ifo & bup files are not very large and can easly be emailed and copied directly into the directory with the vob files.
