I was planning to build a forum, not as bigger as this one but enough I think. And I was wondering how much traffic has doom9 (forums) per month, in order to select one or other hosting solution.
What about the data base, how big is it? Is it made in My-SQL?
Perhaps a 40GB (traffic) - 1.5GB (free space) [$150 per year (2 months free)], would be enough?
Thanx in advance ;)

40GB traffic won't be enough. Plan for 100GB to be on the safe side. And, having your own server helps.. you never know about the performance of a shared MySQL database.

About having my own server, it could be possible if I lived in Japan, but for now I'm living in Spain and here a T3 connection is sth as rare as a green dog :p - Fuck*** asimetric lines
Thanx doom9 !

I wonder how much can be saved if gzip was used. DXN forums are lightning fast because ot that ;)
Also, it would be interesting to see how many pages could be *not* transferred if "conditional GET" was used. I don't think I've ever seen a forum software utilizing conditional GETs though (why?).
