Hi
Just wanting to know how do i reduce the bitrate on a particular cell in 3.2 ? Can this even be done ?
I have run a Vid thru DVD-RB and oversized the output so i can post process. After using VobBlanker and removing unreferenced material and rmoving trailers , nag screens etc and running the resultant output thru shrink 3.2 to compress menus etc as much as possible i am still 110Mb over size ....SO.....i am wondering is it possible to reduce , say the end credits only within Shrink to a lower bitrate..?
Also on this title i have two directors comments that are 144Mb each...but i want to perserve the DVD as is without taking extras out....i am wondering is it posssible to reduce the bitrate on the directors comments from 192Kb Ac3 to say 96Kb to gain more space that way ????
Maybe i cant do what i want but its fun trying to squeeze every little drop i can out of it...
Any suggestions ? Are there any tricks shrink can perform other then its standard box of tricks ?

i don't think dvd shrink can do that.
the easiest way might be to cut out the credits or even the studio logo with vobblanker.
if you want the credits and have to compress more. you would have to extract the cells, create ifos for them, compress 10% with dvd shrink and then use vobblanker to replace each cell. this can take some time.
audio is compressed alot already and it's more work then the method above. i wouldn't touch the audio.

Hi Sweetness
Thanks for your reply.
Thouhgt as much and after playing around most of last night i come ot the same conclusion....but you have to ask or younever learn..right
I have run the output from RB through Vobblanker and removed as much as i can but still am 110 Mb over size to fit a DVD5.
I guess all i can do now is run it through shrink and burn its output. The amount of reduction in shrink is 96.5% after all the processing i have done so far. Will running it through shrink AFTER DVD-Rb cause any problems you know of ? Will the further reduction mess up the CCE encode that came out of RB in any way ?
Of course i could always go back to RB and be a little less aggressive on the over size but its a long time to re-encode the whole thing.... OR..i could PREPROCESS before RB but i'm having enough problems as it is ( although its getting much better). I have to say VobBlanker is brillant and very easy to work out and use...Now to get on top of PgcEdit....or go the esy way and get DVD-RM but where would the fun be in that ?
Anyfurther you could give would be highly appreciated..

You can apply different levels of compression (http://forum.digital-digest.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=25375), would this help in your case?

hi Chetwood
Yes...
Actually no it doesn't because i dont want to reauthor the movie, i want to leave it intact . All i want to is reduce the bitrate (or increase the compression if you prefer) on the end credits to see how much space i can reclaim. i dont want to touch the rest of the title......

If you reauthor, you can add the menus back in later.

Hi Blutach
Thinking about this a bit more , would it not be possible to go back in RB and use one of the ad in programs to reduce the cell of the credits ONLY, a bit further to try to meet the target size i need ?
I dont know if RB will choke on processing its own output or not. Then there is the issue of what effect will re-encoding an encode have on the output quality...i am sure it would have to go down with each succesive encode......
All i want to do is try to reduce the bitrate on the credits to something really low to gain more space to try to shoe horn the files i have from various processes onto a DVD-5. reading your guide on using shrink et al should work but would it not be easy to just use RB and not touch menus at all ?
Hmmmmm ....thinnking , thinking...
