Is anyone familiar with any bitsetting software compatible with the NEC 2510A? I've tried to set the booktype to DVD-ROM with Nero, DVD Decrypter (3.5.2.0, of course), and DVDBitSetterv2.1.13, but alas, I'm still unable to accomplish my goal of bitsetting DVD+R disks to DVD-ROM specification. I even get an error message telling me that bitsetting in not compatible with my drive, which isn't surprising since it is a +/-RW. Anyways, is there a program that anyone here is familiar with that can enable bitsetting on finicky drives, or might I have to flash it with some new driver or something as drastic. Any replies are greatly appreciated; except for sarcastic or smartass ones.;)

I have the same drive and AFAIK it doesnt support bit-setting with the standard NEC firmware.
I knew this before buying the drive since I hardly wanted to burn VideoDVDs and needed the drive more for data backups.
You can however get bitsetting by flashing the firmware - which can *destroy* your drive and you'll also loose warranty so in case it breaks you cant send it back to NEC for replacement.
You can get modified firmware for this drive here (http://www.micheldeboer.nl/firmware/).
Official firmaware updates can be found here (http://www.de.nec.de/softwareoverview2.php/id/557).
