I know this is totally newbie. I am trying to create an avi for my portable media player at 320x240 with bitrate of around
300kbps with 2 pass xvid. what is best quant matrix out there for this range of bitrate? all that I see out there are for movie
backups and talk of 1500 kbps as low bitrate.
thanks for your help.

Afaik most of this portables are limited to a certain mpeg4 profile/level !!!
Could be that ya player only supports h.263 quantization or so...
So, what kind of portable player is it ???

axim x50v with betaplayer. betaplayer doesn't do qpel/gmc but mostly supports xvid pretty much.

Ok, beside H.263...
Give Sharktooth's EQM v3 ULR and Jawor's 1CD matrix a try !!!

I use BetaPlayer (0.95) on my XDA II.
And I use H.263 as it tends to lean toward better compressabilty.
Another couple of things I should point out is to avoid using "Packed Bitstream" as it can make playback in BetaPlayer sometimes look jerky, and make sure you pre-rotate your movie as it results in less tearing in BetaPlayer.
Hope this help
