View Full Version : Set top players worth bothering with?

One's PC can play anything set top players can.

Is it difficult to send the video and audio from one's PC to a TV?

This seems like a much more useful solution since with a PC one doesnt have to worry about a specific format not being supported.

If you look inside set top players they contain a DVD drive and chipset then some way to send the video and audio out (eg dvi or component out, digital auio out, etc.)

Obviously a set top player is convenient and can sit right with your tv and a remote is provided, which are major advantages.

Can anyone offer a solution which allows video out and optical audio out from a PC to a TV? This would be perfect as I have a widescreen HDTV and a surround speaker system and the receiver accepts optical digital audio in.

Thanks in advance for all suggestions

Why not have a look at what ChristianHJW built: -

Admittedly, he was a bit fed up with it at the beginning but I think he's happier with it now!
