Nero Recode 2 and pocket pc playback

Ok lads,

Nero once again lives up to my expectations. Been using it several years. of late trying this recode feature. works very well creating the perfect size/quality for my pocket pc (ipaq2215) i can play back on my laptop/home computer using apples quicktime. but when i try to open the file on my pocket pc... nada zip zilch.

i have Pocket MVP and Pocket DIVX yet neither recognize the file.

1. is there a way to get the nero codec onto the pocket pc such that either of those 2 programs recognize it?

2. another pocket pc mpeg4 player i could get that would allow it.>?


the file size/quality is perfect. i just cannot play it back unless i use quicktime on laptop or home computer. been in contact with apple there is no quicktime player for pocket pcs as far as they know.

as it plays in qt you are obviously using nero's mpeg-4 simple profile encoder

as the files produced by nero are 100% mpeg-4 compliant, you can play these .mp4 files in any player existing for pocketpc, that supports mpeg-4 simple profile video, with mpeg-4 aac audio and the mpeg-4 container: .mp4
no need to get the "nero codec" to the pocketpc

ok i understand that. then i guess i need an mpeg4 player for pocket pc. which upon googling i find pocket divx and mpv player

sites say they play mpeg4 yet no dice.

i am willing to try different encoder (dont think i need that)

or different players (using the only 2 i have found so far)

divx5 is only mpeg-4 video in .avi
nerodigital is mpeg-4 video + mpeg-4 aac audio + .mp4

a player that only handles divx5 (aka mpeg-4 video), will not handle .mp4 files as produced by recode

afaik betaplayer is the best pocketpc player

Ok i got the betaplayer on my pocket pc.

i have encoded using nero recode2 which generated a file called title.mp4

i have also done same with quicktime pro. title1.mp4

neither are being "seen" on the sd card by betaplayer.

any more ideas?

Betaplayer support container mp4, sound codec aac, but not support mpeg4 avc video codec (maybe in future) =it means = For now movies from Nero Recode2 (mpeg4 avc) is not available for Pocketpc.

recode also encodes to mpeg-4 asp, which is supported on betaplayer (basically it offers two different video codecs: asp and avc (read the mpeg-4 sticky to learn about the difference :) )

i am looking at nero recode2 right now and my options under profiles are 2 choices from portable handheld,ect...to portable avc handheld avc.......

i am assuming the portable (without AVC) is the asp you spoke of.


can i ask you this since you seem so familar.

can you take any small clip video file. use nero recode2 then tell me that it works in betaplayer? if it does can you please post simple step by step for me to emulate?

according to your posts (and thank you for your time on this) i have all the neccesary software to make and playback an mp4 on a pocket pc. is this not correct?

Can Nero Mp4 video be played on PalmOS5, a Zire72 in my case?

@bond - yes i know this, but in Nero recode2 Mpeg4 asp version you have Qpel and GMC - if turn on this - betaplayer can't handle this.
(read the mpeg-4 sticky to learn about the Qpel and GMC :sly: :) )

@speedpuppy - why don't you use normal xvid? - it's better quality then Nero recode2 Mpeg4 asp. If you want - many progs puts enocoded movies to mp4 - mp4creator for example.

And why mp4? For now Betaplayer recognize mp4 file format poor (like my english :) ) - Betaplayer also decode avi container with he-aac very well.

the reason i need the small size and high quality is that i put tv shows and movies on sd chips for playback on my ipaq 2215

right now i can make mpeg1s that small but i know mp4 will be better for same or less file size.

i'm trying to figure out if its my player or my encoder

mp4 it is only file format container !!! This is not Video codec ! mp4,avi,mov,mkv etc - it's is containers for encoded stream like video and/or audio codecs

for example - mp4 file format and inside xvid content with mp3 audio, size 200MB
second example - avi file format and exactly this same xivd and mp3 audio - size 200MB

no difference between this files in quality and size.

mp4 is not mpeg4 (asp/avc) video codec !
