View Full Version : Gordian Knot 0.33.1 Miscalculates MKV Size?

Hi, I used the new Gordian Knot release to make a dual vorbis audio MKV video with softsubs and I keep clearly specifying 1400 MB and getting 1100 MB. Is this a calculation bug? This never happened with DivX before... I can post my log, if need be, but I'm really not sure what's causing this...maybe it's the additional soundtrack?

Maybe the movie is undersized due to being maxed out (there was no compressibility check as fas as I can tell). Also please post your AVS file as you don't seem to be doing IVTC on 30fps source... (1100/1400Mb ~ 0.8 that it IVTC ratio btw...)

No, no IVTC. Deinterlacing. The output is 29.97.

All I saw was a lack of compressibility testing, so I'm with Len0x, it may be maxed out at that resolution.

OK, stupid question, then: what exactly does compressibility testing do and how should I use it? This has never happened in the past, you see.

See Undersized Files. Why do I get them, and what do I do about it? (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=24584)

niamh

Your audio 1 is grossly undersized (predicted:281 911 , result: 124 294), which in turn leads to a video bitrate recalculation , from the 1120 kb/s predicted to 1334 kb/s fact. You chose a low resolution of 512x368 too, and if your movie is very compressible, at that bitrate, resolution, and if you've enabled things like b-frames and AQ, is plenty enough reason to saturate the codec :)
If you don't do compressibility tests, you're in for more surprises like that :)

Ooh, this is exactly what I needed, jggimi, thanks. ;) Niamh, yes, I don't know how I missed that, this makes perfect sense now.

Oh damn, I just tried running the compressibility test now and got "failed to get data for 'use_bvop'". What am I doing wrong?

OK, found something here (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=80310&highlight=failed+to+get+data+for+usebvop) and here (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=80158) but I tried using "Delete Registry Keys" in GKnot and it didn't help. Are there any other keys/settings that need to be cleared?

OK, I'm totally confused now. The XviD guide (http://www.doom9.org/gknot-main4.htm) looks nothing like the XviD settings window I get...

Quick guess, you've used xvids betas in the past, and you havent uninstalled one of them properly (I would say RC1, I've seen the issue before where the old GUI "stuck", and this is probably what you are seeing now).
Try uninstalling xvid through it's own uninstaller(in program files/xvid), or/and go in system 32 and delete manually the ax/dll files you find, then reinstall (you may want to reboot prior to that).

Good idea, but will this fix my "failed to get data for 'use_bvop'" compressibility check problem?
