Hello, and welcome to the forum-
It will help if i used an option "forced sharper matrix" in agk Assistan?
Yes, and the higher the resolution, the closer to the original source sharpness the XviD result will be. Now, if the DVD, or whatever your source is, is already soft, then you can only attempt to improve it outside of AutoGK, by editing an .avs in GKnot to add a sharpening filter and then encoding through GKnot, or encoding completely manually.

I know that this depends of the length of the movie and in to how many cds i chose to encode my dvd movie.... But basicly i wanna know if this i understand right..
So that means if i manualy set the resolution in AutoGK to a higher level like in some cases to "688" or "702" with "forced sharp mpeg matrix" option activated in Assistant, then i will get more sharper picture?? (even i the quality of the movie is getting low but the picture will became more sharper)?
And i would like a little tip...
I have a movie (original dvd dekrypted) long 2h.45.min wich i would like to encode to 2cds 700mb. How bigger resolution would you set and what of the options would you sugesst in autoGK Assistant???!
Any help would be exellent!
Sorry for bad English.. :)

Welcome dj dragon,
Just had that kind of decision to take this morning (the new AGK 1,85 behaves strangely for me, I will see if it is persistent). I am talking about 2-pass encoding.
So I had an interrupted encode(2nd pass) with the followings; size 896Mo, video 624/xxx (+-16/9) audio mp3 abr 172; the video looked a bit blurry, the source being a capture.
I decided to keep same size, use sharp matrix and reduce the audio to 160 abr. The comptest told me video 608/xxx using softer resizer. I have not seen the result yet, will see that tonight. If I had not wanted a softer resizer (really sharper video) I should have given more size or manually lower the video width
So AGK has calculations of it's own and the more you interfere with it the more it +may+ mess.
Sharpmatrix is for comfortable or big sizes (1Gb or 2cd or more) AGK will use it by itself if you use big enough size;
If you decide to force .sharpmatrix make some tests to see what will be the minimum video width acceptable for you (not acceptable give more size, test again).
If you force both the sharpmatrix and a fixed video width the results can really be bad
I usualy only change the width by lowering 1 or 2 sizes after the comptest or 1st pass to get more quality, not the opposite way.
This topic is interesting and my answer may not be clear enough, I will try to resume: :)
Change one setting at a time, see the results
.sharpmatrix needs enough size to look good, experiment
Be careful with manual video width you may end with worst quality.
Happy new year

BigDid Thanks! You have been very helpful!
My computer results said next (with everything auto):
668*xxx resolution, compression quality 64%!
So basicly-if i want more sharper picture on 2 cds movie,is best to lower the width to "608"*xxx with "forced sharp matrix"!
this is one of the options..
Another option is to resize the width to "688*xxx" wihout "forced sharper matrix"!
In this case i think the first choice with forced matrix is better..what do you think guys??

I know I could have been clearer :)
What AGK does'nt say:
1/If the width is high enough - above 512 for 4/3 or 608 for 16/9- sharpmatrix will be used by default but not softer resizer and not stated in the log.
2/ If 1 cd encode(700mb) the default is soft matrix and no softer resizer, -soft matrix used- will be stated in the log; this is why .sharpmatrix was asked in the beginning, users were so fond it became a feature :)
What AGK says
When it changes the setting it will tell you; ie: softer matrix used and/or softer resizer used, sometimes both.
In the exemple I gave above, filesize was not big enough, sharpmatrix was forced and AGK decided to keep the video width high and use softer resizer.
In your exemple (I suppose file size is above 1Gb) default for 668/xxx is sharpmatrix and no softer resizer, you should have the sharpest possible picture for that resolution (more resolution, more details, sharper it is or seems)
If you want to be sure, lower the filesize step by step and run until the comptest; at one moment you will see the mention softer matrix/softer resizer appears in the log window.
/Edited for rectifications/

PS @ Lenox, if no big deal it would be fine to see mention of these settings in the log (sharp matrix used, sharp resizer used) not only the changes from default behavior
PS2 @ all, I am writing the above from memory and may be inaccurate on some details, if so please point it out.

BigDid: You have been more helpful then ever!:)
Now i know how to choose right resolution and when to check the box "forced sharp matrix"-in some cases when the width is to low is good to check that box OR make the width a little higher! It also depends of the length of the movie and the size of my divx/avi!
Thanks mann!:)

The Only option i can find in the assistant is force sharpen mpeg matrix, does this also work on avi's using xvid?
