View Full Version : how to tell DVDshrink to ignore read errors?

I'm trying to salvage a DVD with read error. If I use dvdshrink, it would detect a read error and quit.

If I rip the files (all except one VOB has error) to the hard drive and tell dvdshrink to look for source in that directory, it asks for some non-existing files and refuse to proceed.

The dvd is > 4.7 GB, so a straight copy (ignoring error) won't fit on one dvdr.

What else can I try?

Rip the disk with DVD Decrypter

hi DiscError
try using vobblanker after you ripped it to your harddrive. if you don't want to keep the video in the VOB that has the error just blank that title.(or you can even go as far as to blank the cell) i did that once. the error was in the extras so i just blanked it and everything worked fine.

or mybe it's because of your name :D

Kinda sounds like your getting CRC errors from a badly scratch disk. As mentioned before you can try using DVD decrypter to rip it to HD but if the disk is damaged badly enough that may not work eather. Sometimes cleaning the disk will help and also rubbing some silicon oil in the surface to polish the disk will sometimes hide the scratches. If nether work then you need to get a disk repair system such as this http://www.shop4tech.com/user.htm?go=view_item&id=2086&cata=1&s_cata=97 which is the one I use. This system works on 99.9% of the disks if used correctly.

<<EDIT>> If the disk is scratched on the top of the disk and flaked off some of the media dye then you might as well give up and toss the disk in the garbage. You simply check this by holding the disk up to the light. If you can see a hold in the dye then its toast.

Could someone tell me how to make a dvd after the files are ripped to the hard disk?

One of the VOB file has some errors, but 90% of it are still viewable.

The files won't fit on one regular dvdr, and I don't have double layer/double side burner, so I need to shrink them somehow. Yet dvdshrink won't work off the files on the hard disk probably due to the error in the VOB.

yes. use vobblanker. just blank out the part of the vob that has the error. to see which PGC or cells it is, open the dvd with ifoedit and preview each cell. when ifoedit crashes then you know which PGC or cells have the error then with vobblanker blank out those cells.
i'm not at home now so i can not go into much detail on how to use vobblanker.

EDIT
i found a guide but it's a little old. vobblanker now has a perview so you don't need to use dvdshrink. skip the "Previewing the titles" and just jump to the "Selecting the source" part of the guide
