Many DVDs have both the Widescreen and the Full Screen versions on the same dvd disc.

I don't have Troy so I don't know.
You could view both title sets to see what the difference is.

Both are Identical in size and name.
Both in the Same Directory
I have seen this on other discs before
But this is the Widescreen only version specifically.
and both preview and play the same too?

It's probably a dual angle movie with title and credits in 2 languages.

could you give us a screenshot of the VIDEO_TS directory?
it's not multiangle - extra angles are muxed into the same stream, just like subs and audio tracks.
maybe somebody really messed up the authoring?

actually it can be. different angles or even just different languages while using 99.9% of the same footage can be seperate entries in the ifo. so you end up having what appears to be 2 complete movies, while infact the only difference in footage they really use is 1 or 2 tiny pieces of footage with different text or such. try such a dvd with dvdshrinks reauthor made for example and you will see 2 main movies listed, which sounds like what uberstein is seeing.
which is what mpucoder just said. :D

aaaah. i thought he was talking about the actual VTS_01_1 etc files.
[edit]
yeah, my fruits basket boxset has the opening and credits in multiangle so you can get both eng/jap theme music and eng/jap titles.
only real problem is the pause my DVD player makes between these bits.

I thought I would look through it and see how much
crap they tried to put on the disk.
But if I try to backup the disk will it be compressed
alot more because there are 2 copies of the movie
on the disk.?

These are not two copies. These are two Program Chains, used in place of two Angles.

I thought that also, thats why I had suggested it might be a disc with both widescren and full screen.
