What PC Specs necessary for AVC (NeroDigital) playback?

hi, here are my pc specs:
p4 1.7 ghz
512mb ram
geforce fx5200 graphics card

so, will nero digital avc movie (dvd to mp4) will be able to encode and play on my pc? also, what is the best profile for dvd to nero digital conversion in avc?

1) nerodigital avc is simply 100% mpeg-4 compliant mpeg-4 avc in .mp4
2) that means that you can use any mpeg-4 avc decoder "player" that handles the used avc stream optionwise (eg ffdshow will not handle b-frames)
3) that means that you dont need to use the nero decoder, but can also try different ones
4) that means that a decoding speed benchmarking has to be done to check which one is the fastest and which ones does decoding in realtime on your system
5) noone has done anything like that till now, so your question isnt really answerable atm

but i assume that your system will support playback of all features (eg unrestricted profile or however it its called in recode2)

hi, thanks for replying, so, can u tell me what file size should i select in recode 2 for dvd movie conversion, i get good quality output in divx 5.2.1 pro with 2-cd filesizes, so, like u guys have told here in guides for selecting filesizes for divx movies, please tell me what filesize will correspond to good or great quality?

its not possible to say whether a filesize will bring good quality or not
it all depends on
- how good the codec is
- how easy the source is to encode (eg dark movies are easier to encode than bright ones, high- vs. low motion)
- length of the movie
- size of the audio and other non-video streams
aso...

but when using nerodigital's mpeg-4 avc codec i would aim at 1cd (or 1 dvd, either way i hate changing discs when watching a movie :D )

You should be able to get a video plus a single 5.1 aac audio in a quality for all practical purposes indistiguishable from the original in 50-60% of the equivalent DVD size. After that you are always sacrificing something (even if not much). Why not simply try for the same file size you are used to and then make your own call?

hi, thanks for the replies, just one more thing, if i follow the guide of recode 2 at doom9, and aim at 1 cd in encoding a widescreen dvd movie with audio output as stereo sound and standard profile, will i get great quality, just like u guys got in encoding matrix3?

doom9 used another, newer codec than the one in recode2 atm for his comparison (as he writes on his page)
also i am not sure whether he limited himself by following something like the "standard profile", you should check out the settings he used for his ND main profile encode (main profile is the correct profile name of what we are talking about atm regarding avc)

and again: the quality of the output heavily depends on the input movie! its simply not possible to say whether a specific filesize will bring a specific quality!!!
