I'm thinking of upgrading my server with a Duron 800.

Currently:
Dual Pentium 3 @ 450MHz, 100MHz FSB, 256KB L2 ondie cache, MMX SSE
2x256 SDRAM, PC133

For:
Single Duron @ 800MHz, 200MHz FSB, 128K L1 cache, 64K full-speed L2 cache, MMX 3DNow!
2x256 SDRAM, PC133

Note:
Server is compiled to use SSE for math coprocessor, instead of old i387 math coprocecssor, which is slower.

hard jobs are:
* File server over gigabit (samba, FTP)
* Web server running Gallery 1.4.x

Thanks for your advices :)

whats going to be running thats multi-cpu able is the question. if a lot of whats running is then dual cpus will probably aid you more. if however very little is then the duron may be the better way to go.

I see more "capping" while the other do nothing than both running at max. :(

then the duron sounds the better way to go.

k, good :)

I will check if it's not defective and upgrade ASAP :) Thanks. I will have to mass recompile though... to set back i387 and set 3dnow :)

Old mobo is Tiger-100
new mobo is Asus A7V-E (http://www.digit-life.com/articles/asusa7ve/)
