Power Supply Short

I think thats what it is. Does that mean im going to have to buy a whole new one?

I plug the plug into the back of the computer, and all of the leds on the front blink. together in unison. The cd's and everything.

the computer wont start up, and i have to pull the plug to get it to stop blinking.


anything i can do? or just order another ps?


Anyone have a new power supply reccomendation for a dual 2.8 xeon system?

i dont think mine is cool enough, it runs hot, maybe something with more fans.

I know it needs a special adapter for the motherboard, but i built this like 2 years ago, and forget exactly what it was.

i was thinking psu because the fan in the psu doesnt even spin... but i dunno

If it's happening before you even throw a switch I would suspect the MB first.

I just replaced an 'overtaxed' powersupply in my brother's comp. His system would turn on for .5-2 seconds and then die. You couldn't even attempt to restart it until you unplugged the PS for 5 seconds or so for it to reset. I think some type of breaker was tripping. This behavior only happened after he put in a new ATI 9550 Video card which used a lot more juice than his old GF2MX.

In his case I concluded it was the PS because the system would boot up fine if I disconnected the hard drive's powerline, which let me know the PS just couldn't take the load.

For your problem I would first check the manual and/or do a search on your motherboard model to see if this is some type of error signal. It could be that the memory or video card came unseated or went bad. Some MB's will beep or give an error signal in those instances.
