View Full Version : Episode A/V sync issue

I just got Stargate SG1 Season 7 on DVD for christmas. I decided that I would try to convert the episodes to xvid. I followed all the steps in the guide for autogk, and even tried normal gk. Both files have an sync issue. After loading the video and audio separately, I noticed that the audio is 1 second shorter in windows media player. I have had to deal with issues like this before when I encoded my own TV captures, but not with a DVD rip. I also got Buffy Season 7 for christmas. I put that through the same setup in autogk, and it came out just fine.

I did notice something in the DVD Decrypter stream information txt file.

SG1:
0x80 - Audio - AC3 / 6ch / 48kHz / DRC / English / LBA: 27 / PTS: 00:00:00.280 / Delay: -66ms
0x81 - Audio - AC3 / 2ch / 48kHz / DRC / English - Director's Comments / LBA: 28 / PTS: 00:00:00.280 / Delay: -66ms
0xE0 - Video - MPEG-2 / 720x480 (NTSC) / 16:9 / Letterboxed / LBA: 1 / PTS: 00:00:00.347 / Delay: 0ms

Buffy:
0x80 - Audio - AC3 / 2ch / 48kHz / DRC / English / LBA: 16 / PTS: 00:00:00.191 / Delay: 0ms
0x81 - Audio - AC3 / 2ch / 48kHz / DRC / Français / LBA: 17 / PTS: 00:00:00.191 / Delay: 0ms
0x82 - Audio - AC3 / 2ch / 48kHz / DRC / Español / LBA: 18 / PTS: 00:00:00.191 / Delay: 0ms
0xE0 - Video - MPEG-2 / 720x480 (NTSC) / 4:3 / LBA: 1 / PTS: 00:00:00.191 / Delay: 0ms

I was wondering why on the sg1 audio track it says Delay: -66ms, and on the buffy audio tracks it matches the video?

Since I figured it was only a second off...I tried some things.
One thing that I tried was going into nandub and altering the delay setting in there. I set it to 1000ms or 1 second. It actually worked quite well. The audio is very close to how it should be, but not perfect. It also messes up the audio when the MGM lion is roaring at the beginning. (if any one has watched these you know what i mean)
I also thought about trying to delete 1 second from the start of the video, but vdub doesnt seem to like to trash 1 sec out of a video.

Does anyone have any suggestions...Or has anyone tried this, and got it to work perfectly.
I also put in a B5 season 4 disc, and it has the same -66ms delay listed.

Thanks in advance..

I bet MGM logo messes things up. If you have a look in DVDDecrypter when you select PGC for main movie - you'll see a first chapter (or may be cell) that is very short (several seconds). Unselect it and rip the movie again.

I'll give that a try..

I just downloaded fairuse wizard le 1.0, and tried that.
It worked just fine with the same source files. I'm going to check through its log to see if it did anything that might have fixed it.

FU does decrypting on its own, while AutoGK works on whatever DVDDecrypter provided, hence the difference (that's why modifications to the decryoting step are required as I described ealier).

Didn't this same problem crop up before? Yes, here it is. Scroll down near the bottom to find the answer:

I'm also having audio delay issues, but there's no first chapter that I could leave out ripping.
It occurs with Alien 3 (the extra long version).
The first chapter of the main movie is 3 minutes long so I guess I can't leave it out...
I didn't change much in AutoGK, but I got an delay of almost 1 second (that's also in the name of the encoded audio file in autogk_tmp).
The same with Fair Use Wizard is ok, so I guess there's a problem with DVDDecrypter (I'm using the newest version)?

Thanks for your help!

has this issue been sorted out yet? does anyone have the same problem?
(it is not the MGM-Lion problem or anything like that....)

It seems that it is just one of those very weird sources.

aah, ok, thanks.
I tried fair use wizard and it works... i guess there's a problem in dvddecrypter and its logfiles...
