I have a dvd that wont play on my panasonic dmr 85 and yamaha 520s but plays on my sons tevion upstairs from aldi.I thought i would reauthor to play on my standalones downstairs using tmpeg dvdauthor. The disc is incompattible with both of my machines because it is a non standard disc.the tevion is less fussy but the other two i think want the correct standard for a dvd.I loaded it up in tmpeg dvd author and when ready to go this is what it said
the dvd is
video 9800kbps
audio 448kbps
combined 10248
it should be no more than9848 in total. the full eplanation below.so some will less fussy players will play it and some wont because it is non standard. i was offered the choice to ignore these facts in dvd author and carry on with the warning it might not play insome oplayers as i already found out.so i did i lost the menu while reauhtoring the disc. it did not change the bit rate at all but this disc now plays in both my downstairs players.I was given this disc by a friend so i do not know its history. So i am curious as to why the disc plays when reathored at the same bit rate.

*The combined bitrate of the clip exceeds the upper limit for a standard DVD.

The combined bitrate of the video and audio of clip "xxxx" of track "xxxx" is exceeding the upper limit for a standard DVD.
The current bitrate is xxx kbps for video, xxx kbps for audio, and xxx kbps combined.
It is necessary with a combined bitrate of less than 9.848Mbps (9848kbps).

For a standard DVD, it is necessary with a combined bitrate (video and audio) lower than 9.8Mbps (9848kbps).

With a bitrate higher than 9.8Mbps it becomes a nonstandard DVD, and we cannot guarantee that this will play correctly in a DVD player.

If you are making a non-standard DVD, it might be different from the specifications that your DVD player supports. Please check the maximum supported bitrate of your DVD player.

If you are re-encoding to the appropriate bitrate for Linear PCM audio, AC-3 audio (max 448 kbps), and mp2 audio (Max 384 kbps) the bitrate should be within the limit.

Please also make sure that the combined bitrate for the captured clip is within the limit.
