I'm trying to back up one disc and whether I just try to open the disc or go straight to backing it up, it gets right near the end and then hangs up with this error. Is there any way to stop it right before it hangs up, because the point that it stops at is not even part of the movie, yet apparently it falls in the main movie file. THX

Hi Bongoman

Usual causes of a CRC error are that the DVD you are trying to backup may be dirty, physically damaged (scratches), or badly authored.

Possible fixes:
a) Try cleaning the disc.
b) Try using DVD Decrypter to first rip the disc to your hard-drive, and then use DVD Shrink "Open Files".

Good luck

Thanks...your last suggestion worked, to a point. Decryptor decoded most of it, but apprently got hung up at the same point. I aborted and deleted 5 files, but Shrink must need one of those files because it says, "cannot find file xyz" when I try to open. I can play the large files (on my hard-drive) in Nero, so I can see that I got all but about the last 20 minutes, which is better than nothing. Any suggestions on getting this 3/4 of the movie onto disc? THX

It sounds like you have a bad scratch on the disk or the disk is defective. If the disk is badly scratched there are repair tools you can use to repair it. One that I use http://www.shop4tech.com/user.htm?go=view_item&id=2086&cata=1&s_cata=97 works the best. I've ran badly scratched unplayable disks through this system and they came out almost new.
