As we know, DVD or DVB pixels have to be stretched quite a bit before the image we see on our screens begins to look normal.

Not so long ago I experimented by stretching an Mpeg4 file with an 576w x 720h pixel frame to 1280w x 720h. And was very surprised when the image proved to be quite watchable!

Have any of you guys ave performed similar experiments and what are your views are about this!

Sorry, I couldn't resist :) I can't think of another way of describing it so that everybody will understand...

Anyway, here's a rather extreme "low bit-rate" example, where the pixels have to be "stretched" by a nearly three times from square: -

352x576 @ 500kbps with 16:9 DAR (http://homepage.ntlworld.com/seemoredigital/01_DAR_Test.zip).
