Hello there !
I have a problem which is, I believe, linked to a Windows XP configuration issue, but I don't have a clue as to what it is. I have a reasonably clean XP + SP2 install (after disk reformat), with Studio 9 AV/DV for analog acquisition as well as DV (with patch 9.3.5). To view videos, I have WinDVD (came with PC, pre-SP2), PowerDVD 5, WMP10 and DivX Player 2.55.
The problem is : I cannot read any mpeg video (mpeg1 or mpeg 2), either using Studio, PowerDVD, WINDVD, or Divx Player. Whatever the software, video starts to play, but after approx. 1 sec, the image freezes. Displayed time keeps running, but if I try stopping video, or close the software alltogether, it does not respond, and after a few seconds the PC is locked, I have to reset or power off.
I tried this with various video files : previously edited own video, commercial DVD, sample video file that came with Studio 9 : same result.
However : I can read divX movie using DivXPlayer (but does not work if played using WMP10), I can read .mov file with QuickTime (V6.5.2) but I only tried this on the one file delivered with Quicktime player.
I tracked the issue down to a DirectX 9.0c problem, as I can make everything work by setting the Use hardware acceleration slider to notch 3 instead of normal notch 6, which is equivalent to turning off DirectX.
I tried : re-install directX 9c, installed last graphic card driver (ATI Catalyst 4.12 on Radeon 7000), installed last mobo driver (Asus A7N8X, nvidia 5.10 driver). I removed PowerDVD, the reinstalled, to no avail. Did the same with WInDVD, same result. I know removing DirectX is tricky and requires dedicated software, I'd rather not do that.
Anyone any clue as to where I should look ?
Thanks for your help
