when i'm reauthoring or disabling audio on a dvd...can i listen to each audio track separately to see if they're commentary tracks or something?
also, let's say i'm burning fight club with nero recode. in recode, i disable the entire extras folder, but leave the commentary tracks on...will i still be able to listen to those commentary tracks even though everything in the dvd's extras folder is disabled?

In DVD Shrink/Recode you can listen to the tracks. Just right click in the preview window while the title is playing, select audio and pick an audio stream to listen to. In this way, you can easily identify what each track is.
When you say "disabled" it depends on what you have replaced them with.
If you have replaced them with "slide show" (this is the same as "still pictures" in DVD Shrink), the audio is retained. However, if you pick custom picture/custom color (same as "still images" in DVD Shrink) there is no audio.
Experiment and see.

Yes - just run in reauthor mode and keep the various audio tracks you like. Switch them with the remote.
Try it!!!

Buy a DVD+-RW.
Anyway, you can write to hard disk folder and not burn and see how the results turned out by playing it in PowerDVD or WinDVD.

thanks! You could do that, but it's also easy to select backup target as Hard Disk folder - that would give you IFOs BUPs and VOBs in your temporary folder.

http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=87634 These subbies are the "forced streams". Always leave them in if they are in the language you want. They will be very small subtitle streams, much less than the usual 4MB or so. Often, they will be well "down the list". You MUST keep them in if you want to see them - this is particularly necessary if you are watching a flick like Kill Bill or Last Samurai where there's lots of foreign language speak.
You will also need to force them on. In DVD Shrink, in reauthor mode, drag the title into the left pane, right click on the title, and click on set default streams. Under sub-picture, click on the 3rd button - display the following stream and pick out your forced stream.
This is unnecessary in full backup mode.
