best lightweight player?

greetings,

i'm in search for a lightweight media player. up till now i've been using mp64, but it has problems playing WM files (slow seeking) and WM in MKVs. MPC has too much stuff which I don't need and thus is too slow. I kinda like 1337player, but it's UI isn't really best, and not very configurable. Ideally, mp64 like GUI would be best..

Any suggestions?

well i wouldnt call 7mb exe "lightweight" =p and in all that it doesnt even have any gui;p

if startup time is critical for you, then just don't close the player :)
For example you can set MPC to show up in tray only, so after you are done playing one thing, just close the file and minimize.
By the way... didn't the "trash anything unneeded in MPC" approach help?

Well we can use UPX to compress the mplayer and mencoder.

and both file size will down to around 2.2mb(depending what/how many libs included when compiling)
For the fastest video/audio player,
i vote for Mplayer(of course):cool:
Im very like this play even its wihtout GUI.
A simple batch script isn't too hard to write IMHO.

I just compared them and I don't really see a difference. Actually mp64 seems to took LONGER than mpc to open the file i tested...
Both MPC and MP64 appear instantly when i run them. If I double click a video file to open it, the player will appear instantly, than after about 0.25 seconds the video begins playing. Its about the same with both players.
If your MPC is taking longer than that to start then I think you might have something very wrong... I'm not even on that great a PC, just a P4 2.26ghz without hyperthreading...
