3 cd Rip to a 2 CD rip

I have a movie encoded as three cds. I want to lower the quality and make it a two cd rip, whats the easiest process on doing this. Do I use the fast recompress mode in Vdub ? thanks.

Always use the "Fast recompress" mode unless you dont want to speed down the encoding process and loose some quality (not so noticeable though) in colorspace conversions.
If you are a newbie and dont know how to set the codec parameters, i would suggest you to download Dr.DivX and use it to recompress the movie to 2 CDs (quite easy).
While it's recompressing look at some guides and learn what the colorspace conversion is and other things :)

im pretty good with vdub/mod, but for some reason i just cant figure this out, im not sure how to lower the quality, can you give me and quick walkthrough?

Just open the first file in vdubmod, and use File > Append segment to append the other two files
Then just configure your codec of choice to output a final file size of 1400mb (or a equivalent bitrate), File > Save As, Fast Recompress and let it run the encode
For XviD, I would say default settings represent a good tradeoff between quality and speed
Though it is a better idea to reencode from the original source for optimal quality
