Need Help w/ Differentiation

I just got a DVD RW drive, and i just am curious to know what the difference between a DVD ROM and DVD Video is (i'm pretty sure what video is)...but what is the purpose of a DVD ROM?

They're the same. DVD-ROM is for general data (some games come on DVD-ROMs; I back up my documents on DVD-ROMs). DVD-Video just means that it contains the special VIDEO_TS folder.
