Nero Digital Speed?

Dont know if i do anything wrong, but after reading the latest codec comparison i thought, Nero Digital is the fastest competitor.
Well, i just compared to a Divx Encode and the latter one was around twice as fast as the Nero Digital session.

I turned ALL visual enhancements off, tried several resize filters and also no resize at all. the fastest i could get it to was around 11 fps, while the same movie with same resolution was around 22 fps on the same machine...

any clues, what i am doing wrong?

ahh.. did you select an ASP or AVC profile? NeroDigital AVC is far from being the fastest codec.

ah thanks for enlightening me... thats indeed what i was thinking, as the asp encoder isnt even mentioned in the comparison...

how does nero asp compete with divx5/xvid then? - qualitywise...

The NeroDigital ASP encoder has been tested a year ago. Here's the test: http://www.doom9.org/codecs-203-1.htm

This year, only the AVC encoder was tested. I'm afraid since until the release of Recode 2.2, NeroDigital video meant the ASP codec and imho Nero isn't doing a great job keeping them separate and explaining their profiles (which are by the way still under NDA, so I can't even exactly tell you what selecting a certain profile results in terms of settings.. they should really re-think that policy and go for an open information policy like DivXNetworks).

This year, only the AVC encoder was tested. Doom9 forgot to mention that the Nero ASP codec did improve quality wise greatly since the comparison a year ago. There were many quality improvements, including the extra mode with rate distortion optimization added after the test. So too bad that the ASP mode wasn't tested also this year.

Nero's Mpeg4 ASP (and basic SP) implementations have improved greatly since Doom9's "Dec03" test :D

In fact, I think it would be really interesting to generate some "Mpeg4 only tests". And compare all the popular Mpeg4 codec manufacturers against each other in both SP and ASP modes!
