Trial Period on DivX Pro

Hey, something funny is happening with my installation.

I downloaded a trial DivX Pro from the official site. Everywhere says 6 months trial period.

I install and the fist time that I use it to encode it sais that I am giong to use advanced features and that if I want to go on I will activate a 15 days trial period !

What's going on here? Is just a faulty installation or somebody is stealing me 5 and a half trial months? I searched on the forum for similar issues but didn't find anything... I am really unhappy with this.

I have a similar problem.
I made a fresh installation (including DivX Pro 5.2) a few weeks ago. Yesterday, the Codec tells me that my 6 month free trial version is over and that I can decide to purchase DivX Pro if I want to continue to use the advanced features. I deinstalled DivX. I downloaded DivX 5.2.1 from the official page (up to then I had used the 5.2 version) and installed it.
Problem is, I still get the message and I still am unable to use the Pro features. I even deinstalled it again, and deleted the registry entries made by DivX, but it's no use.
I need the Pro features.
Does anyone have an idea what's wrong?

I've taken a care of a few issues on the DivX Forums regarding this issue. Did either one of you post there?

While you're at it, you chould check out the new Fusion Codec beta release at DivX Labs (http://labs.divx.com/archives/000045.html)!

No, you didn't. I still have the problem. And couldn't find the other posts you are referring to. I was looking for "trial period" or something like that.

But let's get back to the point: Since you're from DivX team tell us why.

Why do I get only 15 days if I activate the pro features(?!) I'll be more specific: This has been maliciously coded into the activation program. There is no way that a program written to display "6 months" decides on his own to display "15 days" instead.

Since the Website states a six months free trial there is somethin really fishy here.

what´s happened with GMC, and fusion? .... this version it´s only a minor improvement of plasma. if you like my posts herei´ll back with some coparing test ;)

I posted recently a rant about DivX Pro supposed to be 6 months trial period.

The harsh reality is that I can't get more than 15 days trial period offers from the various installs of DivX that I've been trying.

Now since the DivX team also present on this forum ignored my questions about this (malicious) behavior I am left with two options:

1) Buy a license and use DivX for more than 15 days.
- Let's get serious. They lied to me in the first place. The site states 6 months free while to use it I am given 15 days. I asked for support and nothin... I'm not founding them.

2) Crack DivX with one of the various utilities proudly offered by someone that possibly had the same problem.
- That's illegal, that's stealing. Don't be bad ;-)... can I post sites with working cracks? [ :-| ]

3) Use Xvid instead.
- seriously that's likely to happen.

Now for point 3: Does somebody have a guide on making a Xvid file that plays flawlessly on a DivX certified DVD player? Playing avis on my DVD player (Fenner) is the only reason that I consider using the pro features of DivX. Thanks for anybody pointing at the light! I guess some parameters for Xvid would do the job. I have been unsuccesful using GMC and Quarter Pixel... any help?

Ok, seriously, why using DivX?
It's slower, much less customizable, the quality is not even far to be on par and costs $$$.
You only need to get xvid 1.1 (actually in beta stage) to be perfectly sure your encoded files will play on standalones (remember to select DXN HT profile!!! and remember it may have some bugs coz it's still beta...).
For what concerns GMC, forget about it... While QPEL is another story...
New chipsets support QPEL but you should investigate if your player has a chipset that supports it.

eiapoce, I've merged your "rant" thread into this one.

This particular forum is to discuss DivX Encoding. If you prefer other codecs, feel free to use them.

A quick search for "trial" in the DivX encoding forum would have uncovered http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=84230&highlight=trial in which Gej and Digital56K had already answered the 15-day question you raised. If you have further questions about it, please post there.

A quick scan of Doom9's guides would have found a guide for AutoGK, which is an easy to use "standalone-aware" encoding suite for both DivX and XviD.

Rants are unproductive and skirt Rule 4 if they don't violate them. Discussions of Warez are a direct violation of Rule 6. And not searching for your answer before posting is a violation of Rule 1.
