Nero AVC playback question

What software player is able to playback video files encoded with Recode in one of the AVC profiles?

basically any DirectShow based player since the Nero DS filters can play AVC content.

I have Celtic-Druid's DDfshow filter installed and I can not get it to play in PowerDVD or WMP10. I have Dx9.0c installed on WinXP SP2.
Maybe there is something in the DDfshow configuration I need to change?

NERO INSTALLED? 6.6 atleast iirc

Yes, latest Nero Ultra package is installed. I can encode and play them in ShowTime. The non AVC files play fine in everything. But the AVC files will not play in WMP or PowerDVD 6 Del for some reason. I need them to play in either for remote control features to work in my HTPC.

maybe You have 3ivx or some other splitter which intercepts mp4 files

I do have 3ivx installed. Should I try uninstalling it?

Fixed it...

I had ffdshow decoding h.264 videos. When I disabled it in the configuration it shows up as Nero Video Decoder in WMP again.

In the Expert settings for Nero sometimes the B-Frames box is greyed out. Using the Standard, which is what I mainly use, it shows a 3 but is greyed out. I am assuming that this is because I can not use b-frames in that particular profile, correct?

nero offers the limits of private profiles, which exact settings are kept secret, so i can only guess that you are right.

but till now there are no avc hardware players following these profiles available and i also dont believe that they are near (i have heard that many promises already, i only believe things once they exist ;) ), so i dont think its necessary to follow them when encoding

B-frames support is available as a patch for ffmpeg ( but it doesn't seems to be in the cvs yet ).

However, weighted prediction is still missing from ffmpeg.

Has anyone done any encodes with it yet? I seem to be getting quite a few encodes with sync issues. Vioce is always a little behind.

I am wondering why I get sync issues even with the same source? I convert dvd's and sure there are a whole lot of variables that could cause sync issues. But I also do alot of recording into mpeg-2 with SageTV and all my recordings are done at the same bitrate and settings. So, why would some of them encode with sync issues and not others? Is there a problem with Nero Recode?

Will I be able to play files created with nero on standalone players in the future? I mean: is nero creating a standard mp4 file (meaning avc, he-aac, subtitle, chapters)?

Subtitles and chapters aren't standard ( have a look at the mp4 sticky on the container forum : http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=62723 ). However, standalone players which support NeroDigital should support mpeg-4 asp + aac + subtitles + chapters.

Well, I tested playback problem of nero encoded files. Without Nerovision express installed on my PC, Nero digital files are not playable no matter which codec I installed.

Is there a modified package providing a kind of NG decoding codecs without installing NVE?

I can use ffdshow to play asp version, however I think you have to have NVE installed to play the newer AVC files.

I have read in this forum many times that it should be possible to playback Nero-AVC files with any directshow player like zoomplayer.

Still though I have not found any configuration posted though of ZP which works ?

What I tried:

- files source: New MP4 file-source setup for MP4, set to file source (asynch) or Nero file source (asynch). Is it really required to setup a new entry ?

- splitter: New MP4 splitter for MP4, set to Nero splitter. Is it really required to setup a new entry ?

- Audio Codec: New MP4 Audio entry for MP4, set to Nero audio decoder. Is it really required to setup a new entry ?

- Modified H.264 entry to Nero Video decoder.

Please let me know where I am wrong.

install nero recode2 and you will be able to play avc-in-mp4 files in any dshow player, like zoomplayer, without having to do anything else manually

hm i dont really know zoomplayer, maybe it has some restrictions, only allows specific filters, excludes some or whatever

you might want to contact the zoomplayer devs, or try another player (like MPC) to see if the player really is the problem

I have just tried to open the mp4 of nero in WMP 10. Does not recognize the file-format either.

Have you succeeded in getting them to play back from within SageTV? As with you, AVC + SageTV = Bliss, so I am hoping that you are able to answer in the positive!!

I got it working with the ASP ("Standard") profiles, but any AVC profile encode i tried died a horrible death on my Sage machine.

And here's the edit:
I followed this post with one in the Sage forums, and Cayars and Korben replied... Cayars mentioned his STV's upcoming capabilities for using external players. This is probably the only way to get Nero AVC's to play within Sage. Shortly thereafter, Korben wrapped up a little summary that mentions that ASP profiled files were OK but the AVCs were not.

Now I have to figure out how to use my Hauppauge! remote control with other programs (WMP or Zoom) in preparation for the r17 release of Cayars great STV.
