Divx movies in dvd video system

hello
i bought LG dvd-vhs combo player, and it has divx support,it also supports subtitle files,but when i burn the divx to cd-r movie works but subtitles wont show,anyone know what could be wrong? i called to LG support and they said i should ask here help...
anyone can help??

usually tech support are pretty useless beyond what's written on the box with these things, so here's the best place to go.

but i have mixed feelings about paid tech support people so readily referring people to a free site like this one. it's kind of cool that doom9 is so well known, but it feels strange being part of a cost-cutting strategy for LG :)

what format are your subs? the player might not support the type of subs you're using. .srt is pretty popular, so it's a good place to start, but it's possible the player needs bitmapped subs or some exotic format. either way, there's lots of conversion tools. basically either find out what type your standalone supports, or try them all (on a CD-RW if you don't want to waste a whole lot of plastic) and see what works :)

There are a number of standalone DivX players (like my JVC) that don't have any subtitle support whatsoever.

Since LG referred you here, I'm guessing that they have no clue about their own product's capabilities.

LG has a number of DivX Home Theater certified devices, but that certification has nothing to do with subtitles.

You might look up the unit by model number in the database at www.videohelp.com/dvdplayers and see if anyone has mentioned any sub support for it..

My Philips 720SA can do divx subtitles, but only if the filename is identical to the divx filename and the extention/subtitle filetype is one of .srt, .smi, .sub, .ssa or .ass. The filename may even be case sensitive, I haven't tried that yet.

Maybe your LG has similar restrictions (if it can do subtitles at all)?
