Is worthy 384*288 to 512*384 resize for 1CDmovie ?

Is worthy to resize 384*288 capture to 512*384 for 1CD movie ? 512*384 for double sized view for my 1024x768 monitor)
I mean in general, I depends on movie for sure.
If yes, what are rules of thumb to balance size and quality ( except my eyes :) ) ?
e.g. ratios of average quants with given size/bitrate ?
I should maybe intend to use bilinear resize to keep bitrate low.

nah, upsizing can be done while playback... everything else will only worsen quality

Well, you can gain quite a bit using a sharp resizer like lanczos4, because if you don't use ffdshow for decoding you have to use the resizer of your player/video card, which is in 99% of cases bilinear resize.

With ffdshow you can choose bilinear, bicubic, lanczos, and some more.

I talked about decoding, but using avisynth and some filters like iip or limitedsharpen (do a search) you can make your source amazingly good, and then encode that way.

If the video is high quality (albeit low resolution) you should be able to do lanczos4 or ideally iip to resize with better quality than bilinear resize on playback... give it a try, not like it costs anything :)

Of course avs through ffdshow is a good option - lanczos4 should work well.
