I understand it is possible to use Nero Recode to convert a DVD into a NeroDigital compressed video. Is it possible to encode any given video file using the latest version of the codec?

Well the option is Recode DVD's and Video's, although I think it may depend on your serial.

You definitely can.. just yesterday I imported an AviSynth script into Recode. Instead of selecting a DVD when you come to the source selection, just select a file input.

Thanks, but the only options I have are the following:

Recode an Entire DVD to DVD
Recode Main Movie to DVD
Remake a DVD

Do I need to purchase a different version of Nero to enable the features I seek?

As I said it depends on your serial. Nero disables and enables features/programs depending on it.

So yeah, I guess basically you need to purchase a different license. With the new serial the option should simply apear.

ghobbsus, try using Nero Smartstart rather than NeroVision Express.

Select "Convert DVD-Video Movies to Nero Digital(TM)" from the "Photo and Video" section (there is a grey slider in the bottom left if you can't see the option on the first page)

Ok, sometimes recode doesnt take care of the serial you provided and exclude the nero digital options... but first ensure (call or email the ahead support) your serial will enable nero digital.

The fix: remove nero vision package and all the serials of all nero packages/plugins (you can do it from Nero smarstart).
Reinstall Nero vision express package and use nero smartstart to reinput the serials for every package/plugins.

Thanks for the help. I am now able to encode to NeroDigital and am quite impressed with the resulting quality. I am looking forward to seeing further progress on the ND HP codec seen in Doom9's 2004 Codec Shootout.

Thanks again!
