if im using dvd2one to backup only the movie, after stripping out all the unwanted audio channels and subtitles, if the movie size excedes one dvdr, does it reduce the quality or does it warn me that theres not enough room. if it does reduce the quality how do u tell it does that?

thanks :)

thats an odd question. are you thinking of purchasing the program?

to answer your question, you dont really have to worry about the final size with dvd2one,it resizes automatically, with or without the menu. it will however warn you if you are reducing it by a very large amount.

as to how can you tell if it reduced the quality,if YOU cant see a difference,it doesnt matter. most dvds you backup will have a reduction in quality ,unless you are backing up to a dual layered dvd-r.
but as to how much of a reduction depends on the specific dvd. most dvd2one backups i have done are indecernable from the original. now at this point i have to tell you what i tell everyone who says they want a perfect backup, buy a Dual layered burner or dont watch a backup.

you should be able to tell before you even rip the dvd, simply by looking at the .VOB files on the disc,if there will be a rection in quality will occur. if the main movie .vob amount to over 4.4 gb.,then a reduction in quality will be done. anything under 6gb. should look just fine though. some dvds have both the wide and full screen versions on them, when you se this you know that you will be able to backup one version with no reduction.

If you are considering buying dvd2one,while i do like and use dvd2one often, another program that has much more fuctionality, including burning, is dv95copy. it does more. the only thing dvd2one does that dvd95copy doesnt is the ability to join two sided discs to one dvd-r. but if thats not an option you need,i strongly recomend dvd95copy. I proudly own both and like both. sometimes a problematic dvd will choke dvd2one or dvd95copy,but usually not both. so between the two programs,i almost never have to resort to dvd shrink, but dvdshrink does still seem to do most problematic dvds that choke both dvd2one and dvd95copy.
