View Full Version : DVD Shrink problem with TDK DVD-RW

I archive a lot of material to rewritable media as temporary storage and then use DVD Shrink to extract the bits that I want.

Recently I have noticed that DVD Shrink 3.2 will not read from DVD structure on TDK DVD-RW media: in Reauthor mode, it comes up with a blank window when the VIDEO_TS directory is opened, instead of showing the Menu, Movie and Extras options. I do not have this problem with Ritek DVD+RW, Ritek DVD-R and TDK DVD-R.

DVD Shrink 1.7 also has the same problem, but DVD Shrink 1.4 seems to work okay.

The problem also seems to exist in Full Disk mode (although I mainly use Reauthor mode).

I believe some media manufacturers implemented CPRM on their media, so was wondering if TDK is amongst them and whether DVD Shrink in its recent incarnations has a problem with this.

Anyway, I hope someone knows what is going on with this issue and can come up with a fix. With the push towards DRM on everything, I expect this will become an increasingly vexatious issue.

Can you try closing your dvd-rw media when you burn it and then seeing if it works. Perhaps you don't have to close your dvd+rw media.

I always close all my media when burning: if I want to add something, I copy the current content to HDD, add what is necessary, quick-erase the disk and burn the new expanded content; no stuffing around with multi-session.

A late reply here.... I've used these TDK RW's for months now with zero problems with DVD Shrink.

PS, I would check your settings or possibly some type of s/w conflict. I remember I had some type of wierd glitch with DVD Shrink and some video editing freebee s/w I tried. Uninstalled that s/w and everything ran fine again.
