[still OT] interesting. well, there goes MY support and experimentation with that formant... it was pretty interesting and compelling until h264 came out. it will stay on *my* tools disc until i find i have absolutely no use for it, but to remove it from circulation was pretty stupid IMO... keeping a 700mb tools disc up-to-date and optimal is pretty fun... i'm sure a look at the disc could tell a lot about one's interests (among other things) :D

What?! VP6 still cremes H.264 on my side of the x264 wagon! Hoho--Them dudes only took it off 'cuz they got over 550,000 dls and they were gonna release VP7 reeeeal soon, and they wanted the suspense to mount. There's another thread here called On2 VP7 you can see... If v.6 can whip H.264 out of the bandwagon, just imagine what version 7 would do... (And NeroDigital just doesn't work. A/V sync problems, MP4 container, etc) Hooh. ;-0

Cheers, baa There can be A/V sync issues in some cases, when a user chooses a telecined .VOB file as input, currently the telecine is not detected automatically in this case. But this should be fixed probably in the next release already.
Otherwise I don't think there should be A/V sync issues, and it should work, but let me know if you have problems and with what kind of material/usage.

Vp6.4, Vp7, XVID, WMV9 or H.264? May be MPEG2.

let´ s compare a litlle with audio codecs. No doubt MP3 isn´t best codec, there are a lot of other codecs like WMApro9, Vorbis,AAC. so why most of people still prefer MP3( Mpeg 1 lame 3)? The answer is simple : compability. for example mp3 192 has a same quality that ogg 128-130 (to my ear), but is it really so important when internet ADSL is very fast (>256kbit/s). and second reason most of modern players like iPod or CD players support MP3.

The same situation i can observe with video codecs. Divx´s Team copare Divx with MP3. They called it ´MP3 of video´. this mode i compare LAME with XVID.the prices of DVd players, writers, DvD virgens are reducing dramaticly.so most of customers prefer to buy cheap solutions like DVD player without any support Mpeg4 (Divx, Xvid) and don´t have a headache thinking about GMC, Qpel, multiple Bframes. but of course there are a lot another reasons to use high-tech video compression (stream, studio work, etc.). It seems to me that in 2005 year ´old fashioned´ MPEG2 will increase popularity of ´loseless´DVD copy. In case of this situation, a lot of new items will be open in doom9´s forum -> MPEG2 (DVD9 to DVD5,canopus , etc).howewer i have no idea about new HD-DVD or Blue Ray.

If that is a problem i will remove it immediately. But since it was free for personal use until on2 removed it from their website i dont think to break any "rule".

I've been using the VP's all my life to compress ma videos to store 'em easier. Yeah, and I thought I was followin' their progress really well. However, upon seeing Sharktooth's VP6.< higher number > post, I fell into shock. There was a super-advanced version out there? How can that be? And immediately I sought to look for it, but to no avail. I wonder if I will ever be able to compress my videos as well as I could... And now the opportunity is gone forever... Sob...

the VP6.4x release doesn't really have anything new over the 6.2 codeline.. it only contains specific enhancements to integrate it with On2's video encoding tool.

That's not a "super-advanced version". 6.2.6 and 6.4.2 are almost identical. There are some differences in the directshow decoder (they're quite noticeable though).
