Hello folks,
could you please tell me how to optimize Xvid for high bitrate alike 4000 kbps?
I encode at 720 x 576, bitrate about 3500-4000 kbps.
Are there any suitable matrices for so high bitrates? Source is DV.

Use MPEG-2 for extreme high bitrates on standard resolution.

Yap, EQM V3UHR would imo give the "best" result for 720x576 @4000kbps !!!

EDIT: Removed the "resize" suggestion... ;)

I would vote for 6of9 max=20 ... looks like you will have to try several and pick which you like best ;)

The correct name of the matrix niamh mentioned above is 'SixOfNine'. And yes, it is the matrix that I, too, would recommend.

But in all likeliness, you won't need 4000 kbps because MPEG4 is more efficient than MPEG2. Use all features that your patience can take to get more bang for the buck. Adaptive Quantization and B-VOPs make for the better efficiency, Quarter Pixel, Trellis and GMC enhance quality (GMC is the least important of them), a VHQ-level as high as possible is a must for quality.

@Soulhunter: Q-W-Y was talking about DV with native 720x576 resolution, not anamorphic DVDs. So there is no sense in resizing.

Sorry, seems I overlooked this fact... :o

I dont have experience with DV !!!

Its 4:3 and interlaced, no ???

Is it similar to TV caps ???

How noisy is it ???

It is 4:3, interlaced, ...hmm medium noise

btw anybody how to do "film effect" on colors?
I use this

ColorYUV(levels="TV->PC",autogain=true)
Tweak(0, 1.3, 0, 1, false)

But it still looks very ...deadly
