Although the first xvid 1.1 beta hasn't arrived yet, I'd like to make a quick request for it: Allow side-by-side install with xvid 1.0. Such as, have two uninstall items, two vfw entries, two ds decoders (maybe), and two separate registry areas. (The new one copied from the old on install.) It can be an install-time option for those who want it, and should probably be removed from the release version. This would make it much easier to test for regressions, new bugs, and speed differences.

I don't really like the idea as this will raise more problems as it solves.

Also, where's the big problem with "start"-"programs"-"xvid"-"uninstall" and after that re-install?

A little more complicated than an install time option. The vfw and dshow would have to be linked to a different core dll, write to a different reg key, etc. Also you would need a different fourCC and shouldn't the settings be set to default as per usual rather than copied?

I could probably do it, however I agree shouldn't really be publically available.

You can do this: clone your virtualdub folder and copy xvid 1.1's xvidcore.dll and xvidvfw.dll to this (cloned) virtuadub's directory. From now on, this particular vdub will use 1.1 version while all other programs will use 1.0 version.

I don't see how this is useful (1.1 is really nice and stable) but it's a solution. Just don't forget to click "load defaults" whenever you switch between them, just in case.
