xvid&mp3: sound asynchro :-(

Hi,

Sorry for the title, I know it's not a good one, but I can't explain everything in one line.

Ok, I used to encode stuff with XVID and the Fraunhofer mp3 codec (I know it's an old one... better suggestion ?).
It works perfectly. But recently, I installed a new codec pack (matroska), and this is the cause of the problem. This pack installed another version of ffdshow and other codecs, modifying my settings,... And when I tried to view one of my XVID, it didn't work anymore. So I uninstalled the pack, and even XVID codecs,Fraunhofer codecs and FFDSHOW, and reinstalled only the 3 last ones. But I can't figure out how I can get back to the old configuration. The best I can do is view the movie, with sound asynchro (I think it's the movie which is too slow, and image quality isn't as good as before). I tried different settings (libavcodec or disabled in FFDSHOW,...), but it never works.

Any suggestion will be grealty appreciated :)

In the FAQ is a paragraph about codec packs. I fear everthing mentioned there is valid for your case :(

have you tried a media player such as vlc? its independent of dshow fileters so it will probably will work as long as your encode is not dogy.

Instead of Fraunhofer MP3 I suggest LAME MP3, if you install the acm version you can use it in most programs like VirtualDub/Mod and most importantly it allows higher bitrates and generally gives better quality IMHO.
You can grab a binary from http://rarewares.org/mp3.html - just download a stable build (or alpha if you like to experiment) and install it with the inf file :)

You can try uninstalling it - however some will stay on your system and you may want to try to manually delete / unregister remaining codecs and filters. In addition to this you can try DXman (http://www.analogx.com/contents/download/audio/dxman.htm) which has worked for me too when some codecs just didn want to go away :)

I found what was the problem (at least, I think it was because of that) : I uninstalled a Sipro Lab Telecom Audio Codec (I think I remember it came from the Matroska pack). And now everything is fine again :)
